Bottleneck

DallGRE

hello i have an intel i5 2500k and a gtx 1080 ti and i am pretty sure that the systems performance isnt how it should be will it make any diffrence, for example making my pc's performance better if i overclock the cpu?

Thank you for your time

If you overclock the CPU it won't make too much difference, however it should be enough to make 1080p gaming a little bit better.

dude thats a baaad bottleneck. idk overclocking might help, but doubt that will make a major difference.

Please, us dark mode users are suffering

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Build a new rig. Only thing to help. My 8700k sits at 90% on each core playing on 1080p with a regular 1080.

Don't think overclocking will be worth any time.

i am not speaking for a normal overclock from 3.2 to 3.6 i am thinking about 4 or 4.4 or is it still the same?

It's still the same. Your CPU is too old to be able to keep up with a 1080 Ti.

I would either build a new system (if you can build a new system, it'd be the better option) or buy an i7 2700K. A 2700K won't make too much difference but it should at least be enough to make 1080p gaming decent.

You’d have to cap the frames quite a bit. But that’s still assuming the games aren’t intensive. Something you should already be doing. Even under clocking the card wouldn’t help, though I imgage it’s doing that enough by itself.

i have an  LGA 1155 socket (Gigabyte GA-Z68AP-D3) motherboard should i go with a newer socket or is it better to keep my motherboard and buy an new cpu tha fits with it

if i change my monitor's refresh rate to 240hz will my GPU work better?

You'd most likely see a lot more stuttering and possibly some screen tearing, just because your CPU is so outclassed by your GPU. I'd recommend that you just refresh your build, i.e. new CPU, mobo, and RAM.

Hey I have a 4790k paired with a gtx 1080 at the moment and i'm looking to upgrade to a 2080ti. If i want optimal performance from my 2080ti at 1440p and 4k what would be the best processor to purchase that will also future proof future gpu upgrades for at least a few years?

What do you do BESIDES Gaming on your PC,....on your PC?

Helps explain a better thorough build.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

I would like to run a 1440p screen next to a 4k or 1080 depending on what i'm doing and what games i'm playing. I def prefer competitive games at 1440p like league which i know doesnt require much but when it comes to single player games or "eye candy" games i will swap for the 4k. Anthem/battlefield 5/basically any AAA titles you can think of and if I can't get enough frames I will in turn run those on the 1440p. I don't currently stream but would like the option to as well as doing some video editing for future content.

If u do 60fps,i think 4790k will still be just fine with it.

That's what I was thinking. In benchmarks mine performs equal to a 7700k clocked at 4.6ghz and scoring a 509 in cpuz just not sure how reliable those are for gaming though.

Yeah, its still a great CPU, i have its Xeon equivalent and would never upgrade to nothing beneath 8700k.

Won’t do well for steaming or editing.

Will do ok for 60fps gaming if that’s your thing. Isn’t that competitive though.

It'll likely be towards 90-120fps before it really starts "capping" and swinging GPU usage at 1080p. (4790k 4.6Ghz+)

He can drive more powerful GPUs as long as he steers clear of 1920x1080, and uses a more appropriate resolution like 1440p to 4K as we all would have figured.

Games #NotAll, can and do use 6+ threads,.

Soon enough his CPU will be using over 80% average on all threads and will need to move on up, esp with a GPU that still bangs at 1440p.

But overall, choosing how you want to use them is just as important as whether you should.

4790k OCd high, is capable, you have to then create the same FPS capable ranges on higher Resolutions is all. Give or take depending on new game engines and how they progress threading wise in 2019+

Using 4K on a 4790k with a 2080ti will work relatively well unless RTX drives CPU usages up further.
