power consumption of r9 290

Playden

I am trying to figure out if I need a new power supply and I am getting very confused because some people say that you need 750 watts and some say 650 is fine. I have an Orion 650 watt. and I dont know if I need a new one or not. no matter what I would be getting a new one. just I need to know if I need to now, or in a month.

Current system CPU: Intel 4670k    MotherBoard: Asus z87-C   RAM: 12GB 1333mhz GPU: Sapphire AMD r9 290    Case: Corsair 200R    Storage: 250gb Sandisk SSD, 1tb segate barracuda HDD PSU: Corsair RM 850 Cooling: Corsair h100i No over clock

Please buy a better PSU. The Orion units are terrible. I mean you could run a R9 290 on it, but i would risk it on an Orion PSU.

650 is fine

It's not always about quantity it's more often than not about quality.

650w it's enough for one 290 but if you plan to crossfire you will need probably 850w

I was just answering the wattage question

The OP also asked if he should upgrade his PSU. That should have been the first thing to be said. Orion PSU's are garbage. Yes the wattage is enough. But i doubt you're going to run a 290 on an Orion unit for very long.

R9 290 Systems normally top off at about 400 odd watts.

do I need to get a new one right away? I was going to get a new one just I would need to wait about a month. if it will be fine for that long is what I am asking.
