Hyperx flight worth for competitive fps?

Ive seen hyperx flight doesnt have surround sound, and im currently with cloud 2 that has a surround sound mode and i really like it on competitive fps games. 

Does it really matter? And if it does and i shouldnt get the flight if i care about surround, any other suggestions? I really want a wireless gaming headset with surround and maybe even Bluetooth connectivity. Thank you!

You can get virtual surround through the free Razer Surround software.

Most people do not configure the virtual surround properly (it has to be done in the drivers/device, in Windows, and in the game) and experience only placebo.

Also, it's always stereo, virtual surround is also stereo with added effects and can cause weird sound issues.

Do you know for sure that using the flight with razer surround will make it similar to the 7.1 mode of the cloud 2? I dont have a way to test it and the headset is pretty expensive, dont wanna regret not having a good surround mode..

Well, you could turn off the surround sound mode on your current headset and give razer surround a try. Imo you are gonna need a few days to adjust to a new type of headphone surround sound, so try it for a couple of days.

Razer Surround works as a layer between Windows and the hardware (soundcard) so I guess it should work with everything (but I can't assure you).

 

What bothers me is your combining of a virtual 7.1 sound and the word "competitive". Faking sounds or applying additional sound tuneups adds additional latency to the sound and also affects the in-game orientation and directionality which are both bad things. For competitive shooters, you'd want your sound to be as original as possible. You can improve your soundstage by going with open-back headphones, not by adding sound effects that simulate something. You can improve sound separation (left and right audio channels) by using a better sound source (a decent sound chip or even better a dac&amp unit), not by changing how the sound actually sounds.

I have played competitively for about 4 years and i notice a distinct difference between virtual 7.1 to stereo. It does make the sound worse, not gonna lie, but it does help with directionality unlike you said in my opinion. I know its just effects and its just virtual but for me it does make a nice and welcome difference, what i do tend to agree with you on though is the originality of the sound and latency which makes me wanna just go and grab and the flight right away, i just want to at least have the option to have this sweet virtual 7.1. Gonna check the razer software.

Wireless adds more latency than digital signal processing does.

 

Playing competitively for the last 4 years? It's been 4 years since I played anything competitive. I'm a relic from the UT2k4 era, the last games I played competitively were CoD4:MW and Battlefield 3 after that.

Thats cool man, its not that i do not agree with you completely , was just saying i have based opinions and preferences, guess our preferences are different because in my opinion "competitive" gear is whats most comfortable for you to use and play with.

Competitive gear for me means the gear you're performing at your best with. It can be comfortable, but comfort isn't what makes it great for competitive.

 

Have you considered some open-back headphones, for example Sehnheisser HD 559?

Then go with the Cloud Flight, they should sound as close to the Cloud 2 as possible and you're already used to the sound signature of those drivers.

 

How's the Razer software doing for you, is it an OK surround?

yep ive just checked it in overwatch and the the surround coming from the razer surround is pretty comfortable and even less distorted than the 7.1 mode on the cloud 2  
im getting the cloud flight.
