Hello

Im want to buy myself an SSD, and want to ask a question. Will there be difference in performance, with ssd in enclosure, or i will go better buy proper portable ssd from samsung for example? Im asking because buying ssd and enclosure will be much cheaper

From my own experiences, SSD in enclosures are fine, speed is pretty good. Iactually got an m.2 enclosure and it's speed while not as good as a 2.5" SSD enclosure is still plenty for my uses at approx 320MB/s.. I got it for portability and quick transfer for stuff I need quickly. I did have an enclosure for 2.5" HDD/SSD, but the SSD I had at the time wasn't that fast, as it was an older 60GB one, from when the size of the SSD capacity made a difference to write speeds. eg the 240/250GB one was around 300GB/s, and the 60GB one was like 150GB/s or something. They are much faster now and capacity doesn't seem to make a difference any more, as most SSDs will be around 520GB/s read and write now, or better.

The SSD in question wont be faster or slower, the interface will dictate that. Now a portable SSD will prob have a lower perfomance SSD in it then one you buy for in your computer.

But i'm not sure what the question is? You want to buy an external SSD and put that into your computer because you think its cheaper?

If so then no, the external SSD will always be more expensive then if you buy the same SSD in the enclosure since you have to pay for the enclosure too.

I want to buy an external ssd because on my uni we work on unity and waiting for unity to import project is pain in the butt, so i tought working off external ssd would be much faster, and the question is what will be faster: proper external ssd, or ssd put in enclosure, also i have enclosure for 2,5inch drive so i'm not adding this cost

What is the enclosure? Most of them use the same chip for going USB.
