How strong can intergrated graphics in a cpu be?

Jaok

Ryzen 5 2400g has intergrated graphics which are only 30% slower than gtx 1050 2gb and that really made me wonder how strong can intergrated graphics be.

in theory, an iGPU can be just as powerful as a "real" GPU, but in practisce you'll always deal with the issue of die space, memory limitations, and power target.

in a sense the more powerful the iGPU, the more the CPU needs to be cut down. hence why we dont have a ryzen 7 with iGPU, for example.

Where are you getting that number? In practice the difference is quite a bit bigger. It can't even keep up with the GT 1030, which is almost half the performance of a 1050.

I've seen that number in a few r5 2400g benchmarks

Well they aren't accurate.

Also keep in mind that Vega 11 benchmarks are going to vary a lot more because they have no dedicate graphics memory, but instead share the much slower RAM with the CPU.

As other suggested the big limiting factors are (at this time) RAM bandwidth, die size and thermals. If you could make a really big die that also packs like HBM and be able to deliver all the power needed while keeping temps in check you could get integrated graphics faster then dedicated cards as it would be physically closer to the CPU. That's not an easy task, is much easier to pack all the power delivery and memory on a dedicated surface and connect it to the CPU with a high bandwidth connection, therefore you get a GPU as we all know (but maybe it won't be necessary in the future).

That's at least my understanding, integrated graphics are just low power GPUs that share space and memory with the CPU.
