(Ok, I know, I know.  Best to update the other components first then buy a brand new high-end video card when we are talking about components from or before 2012.)

Yes folks this one's gonna require hopping in the old' way back machine, as my 780ti finally kicked the bucket (mini-red lines and wouldn't load new or old drivers, then it wouldn't even boot past the mobo splash screen on troubleshooting)

1080p 144hz non-g/free sync monitor - Build:

i5 3570k at stock speed

CORSAIR Hydro Series H60 (CWCH60)

GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UD5H LGA 1155 Intel Z77

G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133

Thermaltake Armor Revo VO200M1W2N Black SECC ATX Full Tower Computer Case

I need to replace my 780ti and just wonder what would be the best video card I could upgrade to without getting that dreaded monster THE BOTTLENECK (Yea, I saw the video and get that it'll get bk'ed either way but what would be the best balance for this current build?  Or should I keep in mind that in the future about 4 to 6 months( or at most a year) or so hopefully I'll be going with a new system altogether and just get the best I can get and if so what would that be without going $1k+?  I mean I'm on the onboard v-out now *shutters*

Thanks for any help.

Honestly don't know yet.  Probably a current gen i7 ir i9 depending, or heck I might break my fanboy ways and ... go amd   *shutters*  (lol j/k bout that affiliation) and a good video card that can take 1080p 144hz or higher fps all the way up to 4k if I go with a new monitor too.  Not to mention getting everything else current gen. (mobo, ram, et cetera)

I just want to be able to continue gaming and, if I can for an ok price, get even better performance out of my current pc.

Well, considering that, 1080 Ti or 2080 at least.

Dont worry about it if you are upgrading cpu/mb/ram in the next year or less.

OC the hell out of that 3570k in the meantime.  4.5ghz should be easy.

Get as much GPU as you can afford in your budget.

It will be there, but not that much, its still a quad core, it should perform decently especially if overclocked. But yeah, if u plan to upgrade in the neat future, go for as much GPU as u can.

of course.  The thing I'm worried about is if I'll be hurting my CPU with overuse via 90%+ usage during gaming sessions and/or suffering from fps issues (such as stuttering or dropping, etc.)

Um, NO.

CPU's are designed to be used.  Usage is not like redline in a car.

Ideal situation is 100% usage of ALL components.

Get a 2080 but it'll severely bottleneck until you upgrade the CPU it'll almost be unplayable with terrible latency and stuttering at 1080p.

Nah, it will just be playing at the maximum FPS the 3570k can spit out frames.  You do not get new stuttering that wasnt already there.

If wild swings in FPS are a concern use Afterburner to set a FPS limit at your refresh rate.

Not in my experience I cant play 1080p or ill get terrible latency, stuttering, and very low fps. 1440p and 4k destroy 1080p on my system. OP may have a different experience with an Intel CPU though.

Ive used plenty of SEVERELY CPU limited systems (Core 2 Quad + R9 290 being a prime example), when you push resolution up you just hide the stutters with overall lower FPS.  If you set a FPS limit they are just as hard to notice.  I had to use a ~30 FPS cap on that system in many games, especially horribly coded games like those Bethesda makes where FPS determines game speed.

Another solution is to enable DSR/VSR and scale 1080p to 4k.  Better quality, lower FPS, and hiding some crappy CPU FPS problems.

Ok, i get 60-80fps in 1080p and 80-160 in 1440p and 60-80 in 4k. But 1080p has terrible latency and stuttering but 1440 and 4k are smooth with no issues any idea how i can fix it?

What game?  What CPU?  What GPU?

Some games have specific issues when you push FPS much over 150, no matter what CPU you use.  See GTA V for an example of this where max FPS still registers very high, but average FPS can be half of that due to hitching and stuttering.

Did not have a RTX card, but I had a Ryzen R5 1400 build that did not have that problem using older GTX or Radeon cards when I was stuck on a 1366x768 monitor.

It is possible your CPU OC is not stable or your motherboard VRM is overheating.  More CPU load = higher CPU temps and higher VRM temps.

Did you validate your CPU OC with something like Prime 95 to make sure it was not throttling?

I've spent 12hrs getting the perfect OC its max temp is 60c and its stable. i've ran aida64 for hours and rendered long videos with no issues i've never had it crash as soon as i OC to 3.9 its unstable.

Have you recorded VRM temps?  This was a major problem of pretty much all B350 and lower end X370 boards.

Ok, now I'm also curious, what would be a good one to go with that wouldn't bottleneck and cause studdering and hitching if I get one just for now?

I'm also curious as to whether the 1080 and 2080 are the same thing minus RTX as far as gaming is concerned?  The reviews seem to confuse this for me.
