Doing a build with taxes and i am still up in the air for what CPU or CPU's I want. Looks like $550 is going to be my limit for just the CPU. I have a budget set of $1800 for the computer and another $400 for Monitor/Mouse/Keyboard.

I will be using this for basic tasks, running a few VM's at one time, Plex Server with some on the fly transcoding which I am going to try to use a GPU to get most of that done to take the load off the CPU looking into a RTX 2060 or a Vega 56.

I will be doing video transcoding with handbrake 3-10 videos a day. I will be running ICS for my internet connection so this PC will be always on. I already have a 360mm rad that I will be running in custom loop for cooling.

I will be doing occasional gaming nothing crazy but would be nice to unwind with some first person shooters and racing games once in a while. I will be running a 1440p monitor.

Been looking at i9 9900k, ryzen threadripper 2920x, Also been looking on ebay at used dual Xeon's would like E5-26xx v3 so i could use DDR4 memory but if I can get a better clocked E5-26xx v2 I would go that route as well. I care about single thread performance, multi thread, and power consumption as it will be on 24/7 365.

Thanks for any thoughts any if you have experience with any of these CPU's please let me know your thoughts and any benchmarks you have done. I love to see real world cinebench scores for Overclocked chips to see what they are capable of.

EDIT:

I most likely will be getting the CPU new from Microcenter so keep this in mind on pricing. Or ebay if i go with Dual Xeon's
