GameCube help

What's up. I've got a GameCube that continually gets stuck on the base screen on Path is Radiance. It's triggered by scrolling through the units list I think and doesn't seem to stop on any particular unit. It makes this freaky looking error screen that I'll attach where the normal black screen is displayed behind the unit sprite on the base screen. The game has also gotten stuck during combat, leveling up, and transforming. 

I know very few people are experts on Path of Radiance but given that the crashes don't seem tied to a specific character would I be correct in assuming that the problem is either in the GameCube itself or the memory card?

I've cleaned the lens on the console and reset the lens rocker position but it always ends up in the same position after the crash, just outside of the center position.

Sorry for the rant but it's gotten infuriating.

Check the cooling fan and replace if its not working.  Also try cleaning the optical drive lens.

Careful when cleaning those optical lens Adam Koralik has a good teardown and cleaning video on it.  Listen to it.  Learn it.  Love it.

To update, I'm fairly sure the problem is a bad fan and thermal issues make sense. I bought it 3rd+hand so it's probably time to replace it anyway.

The disc is nearly flawless, I was lucky to get it in such good condition.
