Display took a hit 60hz works, 144hz blacked out.

BogdanM

Hi,

So my monitor took a hit after my dad tried to look at some 3D work I did for him in Unreal.

(No my model was fine, his computer skills are few and temper quite short.)

I am using a GTX 970 G1 Gaming.

The Monitor is a Benq XL2420Z.

I used a simple HDMI and panel is perfect at 60Hz.

I switch back to my default DVI-D cable and the screen is blacked out.

I switched in windows from  144Hz to 60 on the DVI-D link (using HDMI as input) and it works!

If I go to 100hz/120hz there is pixel shifting on the left side of the screen(120hz is way worse).

If I go 144HZ it is all blacked out.

Is is possible to open the monitor and check the cables inside?

Thanks for helping!

Just tested with my old ass PC that had a DVI-D port on a Radeon 5750 something.

That PC DID 144 HZ for 5-7 seconds before it shut down ( something died in it).

Does that mean its the GPU?

I keep both HDMI and DVI-D in the GPU then the DVI image is OK(little flickering),

I remove the HDMI output from the GPU and leave only the DVI-D and the image goes haywire.

If I can successfully test the monitor at 144 hz on older hardware then it is bound to be the GPU?

EDIT#1

Turns out the Radeon 5750 has a DVI-I not DVI-D.

So I don't know for sure it's the GPU.

Fixed, it was a slightly disconnected cable of the TN panel.
