Stuttering Behaviour

Hey, I was just wondering if anyone has run into this kind of stuttering behavior before. and know the cause / a solution.

Basically, once it starts, I get audio cut out for about half a second, after which my mouse and screen freeze for about the same time. What confuses me is the screen freezing after the audio, as the audio comes back in as the screen freezes. So does anyone know if this is indicative of a GPU failure or CPU / mobo or other issues, because I have never had something like this before. Also is there any tools i can use to diagnose what is causing the stutter/freeze?
