I am trying to paste new info to the host file in system 32, I switched my account to admin because it was standard before. It didn't let me so I went to properties- security- change and it doesn't let me change any permissions from any user. I am very confused with how to set this up. If anyone can explain to me how the permission stuff works and how be able to change the file's information I would appreciate it thank you. first time using linustechtips btw.

All programs in Windows since Vista, regardless of user account type, run with standard user permissions. This is by design as a security feature. If you need a program to save in a privileged area, you need right click on the executable/shortcut/whatever and select "Run as Administrator", this will elevate privileges of that program to admin.

You have to open the program you're using to edit the file with as an administrator, then open the file.
