Hi folks, simple question for you tech heads... :D

I did read the other thread and I am none the wiser. I bought a new GPU the other day and it turns out I don't have the right power supply well according to my friend at least.

Specs of my build are;

i7 6700k

1050ti

16gb ddr4 ram

m.2 ssd

1 tb harddrive

i have 1 exhaust fan, cpu fan and the 3 front case fans

2 monitor set up

The current  PSU is Corsair VS450. My new graphics card is the Zotac 1070ti AMP Edition which has just arrived. So I need to get the PSU now before I install the card

Sorry for being a noob.

Thanks

I should add, the the new GPU doesn't come out of the box overclocked but I do plan to download the OC profile from Zotacs website.

that gpu alone has a recomendation of at least a 500 watt psu,so yeah id go 650 to 750 for overclock headroom, something good like corsair, evga,or my go to seasonic.

All of them have not good PSU and some are decent, some good.

Though Seasonic is overrated and they have one of the worst "named brand" (lower end) PSU in their lineup.

Corsair CX650 is a good option. If u have budget try TXM or RMX series which is silent and gold rated PSU.

No. A 400W PSU is easily enough for a GTX 1070ti.

Brands do not mean much. Seasonic has the worst name-brand PSU on the market about now (S12II/M12II line), EVGA has lots of crap, and Corsair has the VS series, which is low end, and literally what the OP is replacing.

For good medium range end PSUs, the Be Quiet Pure Power 11, Corsair TX-M (80plus gold series), EVGA G1+ and Antec Earthwatts Pro are nice and fairly affordable. That said, if you are in India, be wierry of retailers doing the old switcheroo with older Earthwatt Pro Gold series PSUs, and pass them off at the new stuff. It's a mix between dodgy retailers, and Antec's shit model naming.

What the new Earthwatt Pro Gold look like. The new series will always have black wired cables, not coloured wires with sleeving on them.

Spoiler

Stuff like the Corsair RMx and EVGA G2 are nice options for a higher budget. The EVGA G3 isn't bad, but is much louder than the G2 (which also wasn't that quiet), and lacks some protections that the G2 has.

Most overrated? Worst value? Maybe.

But worst quality name brand unit on the market? Definitely not. That’s a lot worse on there, like the EVGA N1.

If anything, the G2 is lacking protections that the G3 has, like OTP.

@Comic_Sans_MS didn't say that SeaSonic makes bad PSUs.

He just mentioned that SeaSonic has the worst name-brand PSU. SeaSonic's higher end PSUs are great.

You clearly can't read English. He said specifically that the S12II/M12II lineup is comprised of the worst name-brand PSUs. If you don't understand what that means, then I don't know what to say to you.

Nowhere did he say that SeaSonic makes bad PSUs.

For the OP: Pick up a Corsair RM550x PSU

Well now you're swaying from our original conversation, eh? You claimed that Comic_Sans_MS said that ALL SeaSonic PSUs were bad. But he was only talking about one lineup.

Maybe you should read posts twice before replying.

also just want to point out i didnt make up that power suggestion, look up the power requirements for that card and tell me its less then 500,plus the cpu uses around 91 watts thats full load, but maybe he wants to overclock it a little so 110 watts instead, thats already too much for a 400 watt to handle,

i read it pretty well,i took it for how i read it weather it was a mistake or not, didnt mean to ruffle feathers, the point is every brand has there crap parts, and op never mentioned budget so i was talking about the higher end stuff,i just dont see the point in getting anything else if your plan is to overclock the gpu/cpu.

1. jhonny guru JonnyGURU doesn't write the reviews at jonnyGuru.com. That's usually OklahomaWolf.

2. JonnyGURU reviews are rather easy on power supplies by todays standards. Sites like Tomshardware, TechPowerup, KitGURU (those are all made by Aris), or TweakPC go far more in depth. Tests such as hold up, inrush current, timings, in-depth crossload, protection testings, noise, temperature, and even EMI tests are included.

3. Seasonic didn't set any bar, really. In all lineups there are usually better options. Their budget PSUs are very overpriced and low end, their Focus lineup doesn't handle well in real-world scenearios, their Primes are pretty loud.  Their factory is small, not a tier 1 either. We can find some "Seasonic" PSUs outsourced.

Also the objectively best PSU in the market is the Corsair AX1600i, made by Flextronics.

It's much less than 500w. 180w under load, actually. You must of been looking at the manufacturer recommended power requirements.

You realize they're taking into account the whole system, aswell as a low quality PSU that can't deliver it's rated wattage.

A good quality 400w PSU is fine.

That was exactly @Comic_Sans_MS point aswell. Don't choose PSUs based off brands. Choose based off your needs, professional reviews, and prices/availability.

In the end, I went for the EVGA 650w G2. Now installed and running fine along with the new GPU. No issues so far, apart from the GPU being heavy as shit but I guess I am not used to having a higher end GPU.

Thank you all for your advice and suggestions x.
