Um it is, not for playback because of industry drm. data bluray works without any extra programs.

You'll need a playback programs for movies, rarely I'll use power dvd 17.

Silent build - You know your pc is too loud when the deaf complain. Windows 98 gaming build, smells like beige

New build working up, I just assumed that Blu ray was plug and play in PCs.  I guess it's not?  Tell me why not, and the best way to fix it.

I've been using the Blu-ray player from Leawo for over a year now. It is a free program without strings attached. They make their money selling other kinds of software. You can get it at https://www.leawo.com/blu-ray-player/

The install is painless with no sneaky side installs of spyware. After the install you get a popup asking if you'll want to install the Java Runtime component which is used for internet access to special features on some discs. Usually they point to the movie studio with "extra" features related to the movie. It is completely optional. I didn't install it and my movies play fine. The program will also play other video formats. I just updated the software and am watching the movie The Martian in 5.1 audio goodness.

Got a computer problem? Update the BIOS! ?

I am not a fan of internal blu-ray, I bought the following and then upgraded it:

https://www.amazon.com/Velocity-Micro-Peripheral-Vmultradrive-102/dp/B0071N66T8

This unit has a DVD drive but is compatible with 12.7MM drives so I upgraded it to blu-ray with this:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06VYGWQG7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I also hated how slow the internal HDD was so I upgraded that to a 1TB 860 EVO.

It also has USB ports and reads SD cards, super handy toy.

If you power it through USB 3 you won't need to use the power adapter.
