Hi guys,

I'd really appreciate some advice with my next gaming build.

Apart from gaming I'll also occasionally run a few VM's, hence the 32GB ram.

I'm all set for monitors (2x 23" 1080p @ 60Hz & 1x 27" 1440p @ 144Hz) and peripherals.

Budget isn't really an issue, I don't mind a little overkill or paying premium for service, but nothing to extreme.

Here's my build so far.

  • Intel Core i7-9700K
  • Be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4
  • Asus ROG STRIX Z390-E GAMING
  • Corsair Vengeance LPX (32 GB: 2 x 16 GB - 3200 MHz / PC4-25600 - CL16)
  • Samsung 970 EVO 1TB M.2
  • Samsung 860 EVO 2TB
  • be quiet! Dark Power PRO 11 850W
  • Fractal Design Define R6 USB-C
  • Gigabyte AORUS GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11G

Although I'm not happy with the Gigabyte software, I'll be using the GPU from a previous build, upgrading to a RTX series just doesn't seem worth it ... for now at least.

The 1TB 970 EVO might chance to a 500GB model, not sure on that yet.

While I like the Define R6 and it seems to get good reviews, I'm not to sure about the airflow.

I'm not going balls to the walls with OC'ing, but a little can't hurt. :)

A mix between silence and cooling seems hard to find.

A 2nd onboard NIC would be great, but the choice seems limited or costs a hefty premium, an additional pci-e NIC seems a better option.

Any advice is welcome. :)

Regards

Do you really need 3TB of SSD storage? Seems a little extreme, but I won't stop you. If you are planning on long term storage for pictures and games you rarely play, maybe get a large HDD to 1/2 the price? But you know better than me what you need and want, so it's nothing major. Maybe trade it down a littlebit, just to save some money for an icecream or ten. Good job on the build btw, going to be a killer pc!

Thanks for the feedback all!  I'll think about reducing the storage, might be a bit to much at the moment.

Still in doubt about the case, I've been looking at the Meshify C, any opinions on that one?

Airflow should be better but it'll surely be louder.  I've read around 40 dBA vs aprox. 30 dBa for the R6.

I that a real audible difference?

Any other remarks are very welcome!

@ChewToy!  I currently own a Gigabyte Aorus gpu and the software isn't all that great.

I don't really care about RGB, but the Aorus Engine and RGB Fusion has been hit or miss.

Usually I had to revert to previous older versions of the software.

I can manage without the software, still I was kind of hoping for a better experience.

While the Asus software for my current mobo isn't anything spectacular, all functionality is there and working.

I have the Gaming 7 (x470) and I'm not having any issues with RGB Fusion and I'm using the latest updates. I don't have any experience with their GPUs, though. Maybe it's because you're using an Asus mobo with a Gigabyte GPU, and using both companies RGB software together might cause them to not work as intended.

I recommended the Aorus lineup because they are better than the Asus boards, hardware wise. I wouldn't buy any Asus Z390 over a Gigabyte Aorus one.

My old Asus board doesn't know what RGB is. :)  Still it should work regardless of the other hardware, but that wasn't the issue, it was the software itself that wouldn't start, would crash or wouldn't remember previous set functions, etc...

I realize I might've been alone or among the unlucky few with that experience.

I'll have another look at Gigabyte.

Any board in particular I should check out?
