Used car choice

JammyCreedog

I want to know which you guys would choose. 1999 Chevy S10 or 1999 Lexus GS300. Both are in the same 4-6k price range. Both come with 6-cylinder engines and rwd config. I drive in a sporty manner and prefer rwd and like more power than most 4-cylinder cars can provide. I think both would provide a smooth enough ride and both would get around 21-24 mpg.

one thing, lexus is the most reliable brand in the world.

srsly tho, if you like sporty car, i guess you can handle minor tinkerings too, so i guess you have to drive them and see which handles best.

why everybody post the spec of their rig here? i dont! cuz its made of mashed potatoes!

Yeah, I didn't mention it in my original post but these vehicles would both get aggressive lowering springs and aftermarket exhausts to start with. Forced induction probably after a year or 2.

well i would stay poles away from heavily modified cars in the first place, especially those done things with the engine.

Get the one you like more, both seem like decent cars.

If you are wanting to do engine work I just want to make it clear that it involves more than just bolting a supercharger/turbo to it.

The Lexus could be missing the engine and I would still chose it over the Chevy.

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Fierce Bloody Angel

The blood is on your hands

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

Everybody turns to dust.

The blood is on your hands.

The blood is on your hands!

The Lexus, but just if it is manual transmission

I believe that, or rather wikipedia says, that all NA 2JZ powered GS 300's sold between 93 and 04 were automatics. I agree that a manual is preferable over an automatic for spirited driving. Any manual transmission would have to come from a supra or i'd have to modify a CD09 from a 350z.

I do believe there were some 5 speed manual IS 300 models sold between 99 and 04 but those are hard to find.

I wouldn't. The S10 was a solid truck. I'd choose it anyday over the Lexus

Nah the truck didn't need any of those replacements. I've known plenty of people with that truck and there was nothing wrong with them. People did opt to do some upgrades but the truck stock didn't need it.

I was reading around on the IS 300 on the internet and came across something odd. Lexus made a 2JZ powered wagon called the SportCross from 02-04 that as far as I can tell, there are only 5-6 for sale NATIONWIDE USA.

The 4.3 in the S10 will be very reliable, but forced induction on that would be more trouble than it's worth. The Lexus would be much better for your type of driving.

Just a note, the 99 Chevy S10 w/ 23 MPG combined is the 4 cyl version. The V6 version only gets 18 MPG combined at best (with the 5-speed Manual version).

Also the GS300 only gets 20 MPG combined at best.

For Sale: Meraki Bundle

iPhone Xr 128 GB Product Red - HP Spectre x360 13" (i5 - 8 GB RAM - 256 GB SSD) - HP ZBook 15v G5 15" (i7-8850H - 16 GB RAM - 512 GB SSD - NVIDIA Quadro P600)

I'll add to that, as someone who drove a 99 Sonoma with a single cab/short bed, the 4.3 and the nv3500. I regularly got 33-34mpg on the highway. So if you do a decent amount of highway driving, I would recommend it.
