I think I have my drives in the wrong sata ports on my motherboard

lavablade02

I have it in these, should they be in the other ones?

Nope, no difference.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

You are good, you should always start from the lower number.

It makes zero difference which ports you plug into, all will work equally well.

Is there any particular reason you're asking?

Like others said normally it won't make any diffrence which ports you use, but if you're experiencing any issues with your drives as they are, knowing that would help us give you a better answer.

Actually, it depends on the MOBO on whether it makes a difference or not wicch ports you use. Not all SATA ports run off the CPU. Some will run off the chipset or even additional chips on the MOBO (the latter may not allow drive utilites to "see" a drive connected to it or may have a size limit). Also, especially older boards, not all ports are the same speed; some with be 6.0Gbps while others would be 3.0Gbps (it makes a difference if using an SSD). Also, sometimes SATA ports are shared with PCIe slots, m.2 ports, etc. The only way to know for sure is to check the manual for the MOBO.

All the manuals that i have read and all the video i have seen, saying otherwise.

You guys never read manuals???

Apparently, no one else here posting here does. To settle this once and for all, I downloaded the manual and found these:

2050450515_Noname2.jpg.d03f5370ad94059a20d8920d1b91c5b5.jpg

On this board, all the SATA ports are SATA III (6.0Gbps) and come from the Z370 chipset, not the CPU. Unless using a SATA m.2 SSD in the m.2 slot, the boot drive should be connected to the #1 slot and the other drives to the remaining slots but it's not essential to do so. If what you have now is working, leave it alone.

However, not all boards are the same so it is essential to RTFM! For example, my last x79 board had eight SATA ports. The first six ports cam from the X79 chipset. Ports 1&2 were SATA III. Ports 3-6 were SATA II. Ports 7&8 were SATA II and came from a Marvel chip. Marvel chips were notoriously unreliable so should be avoided.

On that board, no SATA ports were shared with anything else. That's not always true for other boards. Some, such as the OP's board, may share a SATA port or two with an m.2 slot. Others may be shared with PCI-e slots. Since it will vary from board to board, you can't just make a blanket statement like many here have been making. It is, again, essential to RTFM!

Here is another examle (mine) as you can see no matter how many manual you look, they will prioritize from the lowest slot
