I would say that depends on how long you can wait.

The odds of there being 16 core Ryzen chips are pretty high at this point, though...

im just curious cause i have been looking at some of the leaked prices people are saying and then when you put them in the australian market for me to buy, they are going to be very expensive. just curious if a should get a cpu for now and then if the prices go down buy one

That would depend on if you need a CPU now.

It's not like Ryzen 7 chips are going to be automatically obsolete when Zen 2 launches, either.

If you buy a 2nd gen now i wouldn't recommend immediately upgrading unless you reeeeally need those extra cores. Otherwise if you're not in any hurry to get started i'd say sticking it out isn't a bad bet. I'm sure they wont be bad just no guarantee that they'll be as good as the speculation out there right now

No, the odds are 1/2, either it happens or it doesn't. No one besides AMD themselves knows what kind of development is going on with their engineers.

well it maybe be a month or two before i get the rest of the build, im not doing anything on it that would need 16 cores.

im only using the building, for some gaming, streaming and editing but not really heavy stuff

You get what I mean, though.

With the chiplet design they have, there's totally room to throw another 8 core chiplet on that package and sell 16-core CPUs.

Roll with a 2700X, then. Zen 2 isn't going to be launching before closer to the middle of the year anyway.

alright, i will do that then. i had a look before and games i play dont need anything more than a 2600x so the 2700x will be more than enough

alright, sweet. thank you for the help. im just going to go with the 2700x for now

Unless you're trying to push above 120fps or so at 1080p (it gets better at 1440p as there's less load on the CPU vs the GPU) it games like a champ and streaming is it's forte. Should defo be happy with it for now, and if you get a mobo with good VRMs (I got an ASUS Crosshair VII but that's pretty expensive, damn good VRMs though) you should be covered for any of the new chips, IIRC AMD explicitly stated they're compatible with previous mobos and chipsets after a BIOS update, same as the 2000 series was with 300 series chipsets.
