Fractal R4 windowed 

Gigabyte G1.SNIPER Z87

4670k

CM Hyper 212 Evo

8GB Corsair Vengeance

GTX 770 GigabyteWindforce3 OR EVGA ACX

1TB Seagate Barracuda 
SSD coming after probably Samsung EVO

Comes to around £825-£830

 

What do you think, hes coming from some old dual core and a 9600GT so a pretty extensive upgrade.

Because the Define R4 has a window in this case I'd recommend the ACX 770. I think it looks a lot better than the Windforce, though Windforce does perform a better and runs cooler/quieter.

Its not that he cant afford it more the price per GB he has an issue with 

Tell him to deal with it. 120GB is plenty for what he needs. You're not supposed to put anything but your os and programs on the ssd anyway.

I actually changed it to a 290 because it was really close to the limit of the budget

Other than the 290(x), the r9 series is just a 7XXX series rebrand with better coolers.
