So in past few years we have seen a massive increase in the attempt to monetize games in different ways through DLC, exclusive game content, boosts, in-game currency, loot boxes, ect. This has stirred up lots of controversy in the gaming market as there is more and more backlash as people look at this as a very anti-consumer practice. The problem I see with all this is that games do get more and more expensive to make people still want to pay only $60 despite inflation, rising costs for things like health care coverage on workers, and numerous other expenses it costs for a AAA developer to make a game. So why are people fine with the fancy new smart phone costing more and more each year as it gets improved and costs more to make, but not pay more for games that have cost $60 for years now? What do you think game developers should do with monetization in games? Keep microtransactions, increase the price of games or something else entirely?

imo, it only affect online gamers

people who pays will pay.

people gets it cracked and play for free

this is bad in game development cycle anyway.

I guess you could say that this might be in part why Fallout decided to try and move towards the multiplayer scene? Perhaps in part cracked versions were part of the reason they wanted to move away from a SP style.

I'd rather just pay $70-$80 upfront for a better quality experience than deal with 6 $25 DLCs.

You can make the argument that the devs "need the money", but there's no denying that a lot of it, if not most, is done out of sheer greed.

"uhhhhhhhhhh yeah id go with the 2600 its a good value for the money"

The problem with alot of games like Assassin's Greed Origins and Odyssey, is locked visual and actual gameplay content.  I would never in my entire life give Ubisoft 60 euros for a game with locked paid content in a single player game. Playing Origins with and without unlimited gold hack is night and day difference. I instantly get access to powerful weapons, and amazing looking visual gear that is impossible to get legally unless you're willing to spend good 500 hours grinding gold.

Then there are games like Witcher 3, which  IMO is the best example of how you make DLC. I happily bought the game with both expansions because those expansions are worth their money. Hell, they could've sold Blood and Wine under "Witcher 4" name for full price, and people would still give it 10/10 because that expansion was amazing. New giant world with tons of quest, amazing main story and characters. For 15 euros its bigger than some full price AAA games.

And of course we got multiplayer games. As a soldier, you understand that we only live once, thats how I live. I'm big a offender of wasting piles of money in multiplayer games because gaming and PC is my hobby. I like to do it. Usually I do it in games that I'm very invested in. And I don't see an issue with buying stuff in online games if you want to stand out.

People who say that spending alot of money on video games is dumb are hypocritical. My dad for example, he used to always call me out for wasting money on video games, while he was smoking 300 euros worth of cigarettes each month.
