ok, so im looking to get either the powercolor or sapphire 7870 XT (Tahiti LE) card and was wondering if a standard 7870 waterblock would fit it, i know EK doesn't have any blocks for the XT versions, but i just wanna know if i can put a full cover block on it?

No the 7870 XT has a different PCB layout to the standard 7870.
is it close enough to the 7950 to work?

the XT version is really binned 7950 cores (hence Tahiti). so there maybe a PCB difference

(doubt it) but you'll have to wait on a review or discovery on this as they are a new limited

release.

well, they have been out a while, would it be close enough for a 7950 block? or should i just get a universal and some ramsinks?

As per the EK site - they have no plans to make a full block for that card. I would assume the same would hold true for most other manufacturers. If they had a 7950 block that fit, I would think they would list it. If you go with that card I think you are stuck with a uni block and ram sinks...

well, for 60 less than a 7950 and the same performance once overclocked, im going with the XT, unless the 7950's go on sale before i buy the card

not as long as you think.. retail wise 3months and its already discontinued in some

AMD partners. dunna know if the 7950/7070 blocks are same.. usually a different

VRM arrangement for lighter duty switching. might ask some of the water block

mannies or water-cooling retailer "what's the scoop on the 7870XT Tahiti core

water blocks?" someone wanting to sell, should know or back it up with a return

policy with no charges...

stay away from uni-blocks for only a last resort measure. usually turns to a big-pile

and if you have to RMA your card, the VRM sinks usually won't remove easily.
