Title kinda says it all.  I'd love to do a vertical GPU setup, but have an inverted mobo.  Has anyone seen someone do this?  Seems like most solutions leverage some kind of leaning on the midplate for support...

Inverted case or BTX motherboard cause those two are quite different? Depending on what case you have and the space you can make a custom mount by installing a PCI-E slot.

Inverted case...Thanks for pointing that out.  I think I might need more help with how to actually make the PCIe slot into a vertically mounted GPU on an inverted case. :)

It's possible but to mount your GPU in a vertical position but compared to regular ATX cases with a vertical mount the GPU would be upside down with the mounting bolts towards the bottom of the case where normally in a vertical mount they are at the top. If you have the extra space in front of the horizontal PCI-E slots you can cut and opening and rivet or bolt in the 2 slot PCI-E bracket.

Thanks kind-of my point, though.  These tools/implements rely on using the mid plate for support.  How can this be done with an inverted case?

Oh the mid plate is not absolutely necessary, while recommended for stability there are lots of cases that just have the vertical dual slot and only rely on the bolts to hold the GPU in place.

However since your case is inverted, everything will essentially be upside down so the PCI-E extender and slot for the GPU will be up top instead of being mounted down onto a midplate.

If you have a completely open PCI-E area between your slots on your specific case model you can use adapters like these.

Hm.  I do wonder what the integrity would be like.  Maybe I could machine my own PCIe slots.  Not just to see whether SLI is possible...

Vertical SLI is possible but space is a premium so it needs to really be pack in, but if you have completely open PCI-E slots like in the Coolermaster mastercase they stuff like this:
