How big of a difference does a DAC have on sound?

Yuval

..that's not an explanation as to why it sounds better

I'm not explaining why it sounds better, I'm giving anecdotal evidence as to why it does - @MayflowerElectronics could probably explain why.

Console optimisations and how they will effect you | The difference between AMD cores and Intel cores | Memory Bus size and how it effects your VRAM usage |
How much vram do you actually need? | APUs and the future of processing | Projects: SO - here

Intel i7 5820l @ with Corsair H110 | 32GB DDR4 RAM @ 1600Mhz | XFX Radeon R9 290 @ 1.2Ghz | Corsair 600Q | Corsair TX650 | Probably too much corsair but meh should have had a Corsair SSD and RAM | 1.3TB HDD Space | Sennheiser HD598 | Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro | Blue Snowball

On certain players, it will clip past 80-90%, so it will sound better.

haven't heard clipping yet

Thanks for explaining why, I kinda figured it'd be something a bit more complex than that but yeah...

Mayflower, any chance to get your opinion about this? you must have plenty of knowledge when it comes to DACs and amps

It depends on how good his onboard is. If it's decent, you probably won't notice much of an upgrade. The E10 will, however, be a lot louder.

aight aight mang jesus

Sorry, I had to be a troll for a second.

Thanks for the feedback! still abit odd for me how similiar setups have have noticeable sound differences, but it could be since i'm not doing a blind test.

Well, it also depend on you. Some people notice these things more than others. With your mobo and E10 no-one really expects much of a difference.

I ordered one myself and now I'm kinda worried, wondering if that investment was wasted (not wasted, but not necessary). I also use the DT990 250 Ohm, damn. I hope the placebo will be enough! :P

Everything I post is based of bits and pieces I've read somewhere else.

I have most likely never tested any of the things I recommend or advise against.

Think of me as a information relay, I read it, process it, then post it.
