Gaming PC for the wife

Hello everyone, my wife and I are excited for Anthem. I have convinced her to ditch the xbox and go with the amazing world of PC gaming. I have a budget build for her that will get things started and down the road upgrade the GPU. Let me know if there are any glaring issues, besides the hard drive, I have a 1T hard drive for her, that would just be for the OS and a game or two. I am hoping this will get her high on 1080p or even 1440p for Anthem with 60 fps.

Don't buy MSI ARMOR cards, they use cheap cooler. Get Sapphire or Asus. RX580 won't really do 1440p though, its a 1080p card. For 1440p I would go with RTX2070/GTX1080.

if you want 1440p gaming get a GTX 1080 or something, not the RX580.

Would this be upgrade able down the road in 3-5 years? While I am on a budget, you hit the mark. Also, do you think this would be a enough for Anthem? I saw the recommended specs and these meet it but I just don't want 30fps.

AM4 will be supported for Zen2 CPUs. We expect a new platform in 2021, but we're not sure exactly what AMD will be doing on Desktop. So, yes. That's a good build for a future BIOS update to put in a next-gen CPU and a GPU swap.

 

Looking at Anthem's Minimum & Recommended specs, a 1070/RTX 2060 seems to be the entry-price if you want to play 1440p. We simply won't know until we get independent reviews, but when they're recommending a GTX 1060/RX 480, we know it's going to be heavy on the GPU.

in 3 to 5 years you most likely need to buy used CPUs for upgrade, and this board wont be good for overclocking CPUs with higher core count than 8. Just a Zen 2 8 core (from what we've seen) should be plenty already though (compared to the cost of a high end graphics card I expect you to pair).

 

As for the graphics card, Anthem should be fine on medium or high at 1080p, we'll see in benchmarks. The budget isn't really enough for faster cards without seriously cheaping out on other stuff, which just means more things to upgrade.
