Hey guys,

yesterday I my neighbor called me to help her with her laptops. One of them is an Asus X751LD with an i3-4030u and 4gigs of ram, the other one an old Lenovo ideapad with a Pentium and 8 gigs of ram.

Both are rocking HDDs, win10 and installed/startup programs should be nearly identical (now that I cleared all the bloatware :D).

The newer Asus is so much slower than the Lenvo, although it should be the same speed or faster.

With faster I mean OS responsiveness and startup time. A fresh install of the OS is not really an option since my neighbor doesn't really know what files she needs.

GeekBench-Scores: Asus: 3900,   Lenovo: 2900

Does windows 10 need more than 4gigs of ram? Taskmanager showed me 2.5gigs in use and 1.4 free or something like that.

Did anyone encounter the same problem or have any ideas?

Thanks,

megabikerjoe

Honestly I'd put it down to the hard drive. I'm currently using a laptop with an i3-3217u cpu and only 4 gigs of ram, and whilst it's not balzing fast it's faste nough for basic things like watching youtube. I noticed a huge difference in speed when I swapped out the HDD for an SSD, so I'd suggest you try doing that.

the ram certainly makes a huge difference as well as the HDD and CPU.

the i3 is an extremely slow processor and it wouldnt surprise me if the pentium is actually faster.

I checked out their geekbench scores and the pentium got 2900 Points, while the i3 got 3900.. so that shouldn't be a factor.

Surfing the web is actually fine on the asus, but startup time and snappiness (if that's even a word) of the OS is just much worse
