I bought myself an RTX 2080 (upgrading from 1070) and I was expecting a large performance jump, however I'm not getting the kinds of framerates I should be seeing. I've seen multiple different sites/youtube channels showing that in Destiny 2 they get an average of 130+ FPS at 1080p highest settings, however I barely get 100 average. I've got an i7 7700, 16 gb of ram (cant remember the exact speed but minimum of 2400mhz) and the EVGA 2080 XC. Any help finding out why my FPS Is so low?

Have you checked the power management setting in nvidia control panel?

I always set mine to max performance as I had random issues on a 1070 Ti before I got the 2080 where games would just suddenly downclock the GPU for no obvious reason.

It could also be the default fan profile and power limits are not aggressive enough.  I always increase the fan speeds and power target in MSI Afterburner.

ASUS B650E-F GAMING WIFI + R7 7800X3D + 2x Corsair Vengeance 32GB DDR5-6000 CL30-36-36-76  + ASUS RTX 4090 TUF Gaming OC

WiFi6: Zyxel NWA210AX (1.7Gbit peak at 160Mhz) WiFi5: Ubiquiti NanoHD OpenWRT (~500Mbit at 80Mhz)

I changed the power limit to max but maybe I should mess with fan profiles and the nvidia control panel. I'm using EVGA precision to overclock because it give me voltage control and i couldn't seem to get that to work on Afterburner with this card.

Not likely, but I'm curious as to any potential thermal throttling. Have you checked?

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

When in game my gpu usage varies from 60-80%. Cpu usage varies from 50-75%

You're CPU bottlenecked in Destiny 2. Destiny 2 doesn't use Hyperthreading literally at all. Over 50% means you're using up all of the physical cores. This is corroborated with by your GPU usage dropping to below 99%. Remember the 7700 non k runs at something like 4ghz on all cores when they're being used, so in Destiny you're basically equal to a 7600 non k. That's not very fast, and you're running a 2080.

That's what I figured it would be. I do have a 7700k but I'm not able to take advantage of it because my mobo doesnt enable overclocking. Had one that did but it died and this was all I could get short notice.
