GTX 1080

I want to start a build with a GTX 1080, would an i5-9600k pair well? Is 500w enough power?

I was thinking along the lines of;

MSI B360M Pro-VDH

16gb Ram

i5-9600k

GTX 1080 8gb

500w psu

seems fine. Might want to go for a 650W PSU if you plan on overclocking.

9600K would be fine with the 1080 but you need a better motherboard to take full advantage of the CPU. Like a Z390 motherboard. A good 550 watt PSU should be fine. Don't get a cheap 500w.

Just a heads up, the 9600K encounters some stuttering issues in a lot of games. Multithreaded chips usually have much fewer issues with this. It's not a huge deal, just worth mentioning. Intel still takes the cake in avg fps (for now).

 

And a good 550W PSU will be fine for the current build.

I would get an 8700 over the 9600K, or if money isn't much of an issue get the 8700K/9700K, you're setting yourself up for failure with 6c/6t.

 

A 500w PSU is plenty.

The MSI B360 Pro-VDH is a budget board aimed more at the lower end CPUs like the i3s. Not really ideal for the 9600K and won't allow you to overclock the CPU.
500W is fine as long as it's a decent quality unit.

i7-8700 over the i5-9600k? Would the Z370A Pro make a good pair?

I recently got a bad motherboard from MSI and their customer service has been terrible.  The motherboard ruined the RAM modules placed in it and MSI's only response is to send me a used refurbished motherboard after I ship my new, but non-functioning, motherboard at my cost.  They  refused to replace the RAM modules.
