Get an RX 580 8G instead, it performs identically to a 1060 6G for less: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/KQQRsY/gigabyte-radeon-rx-580-8gb-gaming-8g-video-card-gv-rx580gaming-8gd

Definitely don't get that EVGA card you linked, though. You should never get a mini or ITX graphics card unless your case forces you to.

what do i need to be looking for when shopping for a gpu, like what specs do i need to compare to other cards.

When shopping for anything computer related, don't look at specs, look for benchmarks, they give you far more accurate results.

Yes, I certainly do agree with her about it, and like many I also fantasize about being of the 1%, but sadly I am not, so I could only advise you to almost always listen to moderators here on the LTT forums, they are quite the smart ones.

Don't look at the raw numbers, look at the benchmarks.

i have never down any over clocking, my laptop is a bit old, its great for college use but thats it, does over clocking have a chance to damage the card?

It does, but a very slim chance, and only if done recklessly, but you can also overclock your RAM, and by buying an unlocked one you can also oc (overclock) your cpu, speaking of, this is a very high end CPU, what are you planning to do with the pc?

It won't be useless, but it might not be what you need, so what kind of things do you plan to do other than gaming? From web browsing to 3D rendering.

youtube, gaming, and thats about it, im focusing on whats best for gaming, and wont be crap in 5 years. so im going a bit over on stats so it will be getting 60fps+ on common games a few years from now

So you don't need 8 cores, go for 8th gen, and if you're going to overclock, take the i7-8700k, and if not, ditch the water cooler for an air cooler, get a better graphics card and the i7-8700.

So, you have a choice to make, are you going to overclock? Because otherwise you are getting a build remake.

i'd probably allocate more money to your gpu if you plan on gaming higher than 1080p 60hz(single monitor)(like a gtx 1070, 1070 ti, 2070, etc)

Damn....

yes i plan to overclock but not to much, i just want good gear for gaming to get dual monitors at 1080p and no less than 60fps
