GPU heatpads

I am planning to repaint my GPU and I've heard it's a good idea to replace the heat-transfer pads on the VRM and GPU chip. Where would I get them (located in Germany btw)?

online retailers have tonnes of thermal pad options.

 

But why? Can't you just take the shroud off the cooler?

You can get them off amazon. One of the better brands out there is Fujipoly. Make sure you find out what thickness you will need as some are .5mm and some can be as thick at 2mm if not more.

Yes, but from what I've seen I have to remove the cooler from the card in order to remove the shroud, so I'm right back to square one...

Dumb question, would thermal grease be a better option, if you had that as a valid choice?

no, for VRMs and RAM modules thermal pads are the better way to go due to the thickness of the space needed to be filled.

I edited the post, but its due to the thickness of the space required to fill. 2mm doesnt sound like much, but thats quite a bit of thermal paste and actually doesnt pull the heat efficiently like a thermal pad does at that size.

Plenty of retailers online. Amazon and such. Even Newegg and eBay. 

 

Depeding on the age, I wouldn’t replace them. You also need to know the thicknesses required to replace them.

There is no need to replace those pads anyway, they like last for ever...
