FPS not feeling right.

So I'm really confused. Got lower than expected FPS on games with really low graphics settings. Like 90 - 120 fps or something like that on Rainbow Six Siege. And struggling to get 60FPS on FFXV.

I'm getting mixed responses so I seeing what people say on here as well.

Components:

Sapphire Nitro+ Vega 64

I5-6600k OC'd to 4.1Ghz

16GBx1 DDR4 RAM 3000Mhz. Yes I know single channel isn't that good but got this because my motherboard has max 64gb and didn't want to swap out the RAM in future if I wanted to max out the RAM.

850W PSU. Seasonic Focus Gold.

Both games on Kingston 240GB SSD.

Also I have 2 monitors, one is 144Hz 1920x1080 and the other is 60Hz 1920x1080.

So the two opinions were:

Not good enough CPU and to get a I7-6700k or 7700k. I'd probably get the 6700k because price difference and performance.

OR I should get a second RAM stick. Obviously 16GB 3000Mhz again.

Like eventually I'm getting both I think, unless one of the solutions massively improves the situation and then I'd probably delay it for until I think I really need to upgrade.

Download MSI Afterburner and take a look at the graphs while the game is open. It will tell you if anything is bottlenecking. I'm mostly concerned about CPU and GPU usage than anything.

It's a bottleneck. Quad cores just aren't really in anymore.

Wait so now even the I7-6700k won't do? If so I gotta get a new motherboard for a 6core cpu or 8core whatever. If so what motherboard and cpu would you recommend.

Currently have a MSI Z270 Gaming Plus

Well, the 7700k and 6700k are more powerful, but 6 cores is pretty much the norm to buy now. A 7700k or 6700k would probably be fine, but if you have the money for it, get either new Intel or better yet, new Ryzen stuff.

So very best thing would be a Ryzen 7 2700X?

Means that's a bottleneck. Your GPU is limited by the CPU.

Considering that AMD MIGHT announce Zen 2 (ryzen 3000) tomorrow, wait it out and see what they say at CES.

Yeah unfortunately I won't be able to get the very best CPU on the market it'll cost too much.

Zen 2 is supposed to be fairly cheap for what you get. The ryzen 5 2600(x) isn't a bad choice. It's a cheap CPU.

Does the x mean overclockable just like the K on intel CPU. And does it require a specific motherboard to be able to overclock or be more supported with just like the Z series motherboards?

X just has higher clock speeds out of the box so there's less overclocking you have to do.

All AMD ryzen CPU's support overclocking. B350 and B450 are the chipset of motherboards that overclocking is supported on, but B450 boards are better than B350.

So end solution is? Wait for Zen 2 first and hope they say the release dates and prices of that and then decide whether to wait and go for that or get a Ryzen 7 2700x or Ryzen 5 2600x?

Or just get one of the AMD CPUs or an Intel CPU?

You can wait for Zen 2 if you're patient. If you're not patient pick up a ryzen 7 2700x or a ryzen 5 2600x.
