I recently upgraded my motherboard and cpu to a ryzen 5 2600. I made sure to connect my license to my MS account so i could reactivate it later. I rebuilt the system and did a clean install of windows but when i went to activate windows and ran the troubleshooter it said "we weren't able to activate windows on this device". I then pressed "I changed hardware on this device recently" and logged in to my MS account but my new install of windows didn't show up even though i logged in on the correct microsoft account. On their website it finds both devices but not in the troubleshooter. Please i don't want to have to buy windows again.

I have a retail copy of windows 10 home

You changed hardware, which is good, but you also installed new os on that hardware instead of using your old installation and boot (yes, it works). So I'm not surprised that Microsoft thinks that you install new system on new computer. When I switched motherboard, CPU and ram, everything work without problem and my system boots and activates. I hope you'll can made phone activation.
