Mate 20 pro or note 9?

I’m currently an iOS user but I’m thinking about moving back to android. I have narrowed down my options to two phones, the huawei mate 20 pro and the Samsung galaxy note 9. 

 

Which phone do people think is better overall and why?

both are great top of the line phones, you could go a bit cheaper with the same specs, you should know that. the difference between these two come down to personal preference

Both are great. If you want more storage then go for the Note 9, but if you don't mind then go for whichever is cheapest since they have very similar performance.

I realise I dont need to spend quite as much but screen size is the main reason for the upgrade and im looking for something thats at least 6.4 inches. Im also considering the mate 20 X with the 7 inch display and smaller notch

Huawei has a more Apple feel with it's Android skin (EMUI) and If you don't mind the bloatware from both Huawei and Samsung.

then I highly recommend to look into the oneplus 6t

 

the mi8, pocophone, oneplus 6 and zenphone 5z are also worth to mention, but those are 6,2 inch.

Of the two, I'd prefer the Mate 20 Pro.  Better overall camera quality (Samsung has an over-sharpened, cool-hued look I'm not a fan of) and less tendency to bog down over time.

 

Out of curiosity, if screen size is your main beef, why not spring for an iPhone XR or (if you can swing it) XS Max?  Both over six inches and definitely easy on the eyes.

I’m currently using a XS (selling it tomorrow to fund the replacement) and getting frustrated with how small the screen is. The larger iPhones do nothing to fix this as all they do is enlarge the content on the screen instead of showing more. It’s a poor use of the screen and when a XS Max is so much more than all of the androids I’m interested in it really doesn’t make sense to go for one. I would much rather go for a note 9 or mate 20 where the large screen is used to its full potential. 

 

I’m currently trying to talk myself out of the mate 20x, 7.2 inch display with a dew drop notch and 5000mah battery is very tempting. Especially as its 100-150 cheaper than the mate 20 pro (820 as opposed to 900-1050 for the pro)
