Not sure it makes sense right now if you can wait, I think I'd shoot for a 2080/1080 Ti or just wait it out and do a full upgrade later.

Before I make suggestion I'd ask if you are happy with what you have? If not what goal is it that you have for your setup?

What game, what res, what frame rate and what price are you willing to pay to get it?

I want to game at 4k in the end, im trying to pick a reasonable upgrade for my gpu in the $500 to $700 range to tide me over until i can build a whole new rig in a year or so and by then there will a whole new set of hardware. Right now i have a 1080p 120hz monitor but i wanna upgrade to either an ultrawide 3440x1440 144hz or even a normal 2560x1440 144 hz monitor soon. With the new rig im gonna go completely overkill and completely 4k but thats not for a few months at least

You can't 4k with any card but the 2080Ti .  Im talking 144fps on the hz frequency.  So 144fps and never drops all @ 4k and all nv panel settings to the max and turned on,, vsync on,, 144hz 4k 144fps at all times no dip at all.  Im ranting sheeez.  Can the 2080Ti really do the mentioned hmmmmm.

What's the benefit to getting a 2080 over a 2070 when the prices difference is $200. Does it provide a significant performance boost?

it's like going from a 1080 to a 1080 ti. a 2070 might have some problems with keeping up in 4k raytracing down the line, so i would consider it worth it

btw, the ones you listed are lower binned non-A chips

With 2x 1080 Tis playing witcher 3 maxed out on my UWQHD I managed around 100 Hz steady with a dip here or there in the 90s.

What about ....... another 980 eh ? eh? SLI is pretty sweet lookinggggggggg XD

2070 can barely raytrace at any res let alone 4k at the moment I thought watching reviews on at least BF V.

The upscaling tech was pretty cool though. I mentioned in another post between a 1080 and a 2070 I'd go 2070 just for driver support in the future and that feature that gamers nexus showed off for FF XV

You need to just check out some benchmark numbers from a reviewer to see if you think its a "significant" performance boost. I think skipping at least a gen or even 2 is always the way to go for upgrade cycles unless you are on the bottom bottom end or just want the bestest fastest at the moment but then again pascal was around foreverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr so maybe a 2070 is the way to go for now then go bananas later at some point

wanna do a 3dmark test with it?

i outperform the 4k bench from 3dmark (980 sli 4790k) with my 1070 ti on a 5 sec overclock, so i personally wouldn't...

I have thought about another 980 and doing sli but sli can be finiky and all the 980s in my area are still at $300+ dollars at the moment and for that i would rather pay another couple hundred for a new card

Yeah you're better off selling your card after you upgrade for sure IMO i was mostly joking but SLI does look sweet

it's worth the extra 200usd, 2080 is the minimum for 1440p 144hz on a new build.
