I have windows 10 on a 1tb harddrive. I want to eventually build a pc and use that harddrive on the new pc. Am i able to just move it to the new pc and have windows 10 on it? if so, would it still be activated?

While you can, if the hardware is too different, Windows may not boot, or de-activate itself...

Yes, you can. However, there is no guarantee it will still be activated.

If you have an OEM (Prebuilt) machine right now, it is almost certain it will become deactivated. If you call microsoft and whine for a while, you can probably get em to let you keep it, but it'll be a pain

If you purchased that windows license, if you build your new PC and it tells you it's not activated, you can call microsoft and use their automated tool, most likely. Just remember when they ask how many times you've used this code/how many computers it's been used for, you say one. That normally works. Otherwise, just whine for a while again and they'll probably capitulate.

So if you're willing to take a small risk and spend the time, you can do it. But it is a pain, and dealing with the old software/drivers and all that from the old system is a pain. i'd probably just grab a cheap key and do fresh, tbh

its possible, currently Win10 registers itself to the motherboard of your machine. Assuming you are upgrading the motherboard you should be able to call Microsoft and request them to move your registration to the new board. If it is an OEM license you wont beable to move it unless you can convince the customer service to do so. If the drive is coming from a pre-built laptop them no it wont be transferable.
