So I'm getting either a MSI TwinFrozr GTX 660 or a EVGA GTX 650Ti Boost (depends how much the 660 goes for on eBay) and an AMD Phenom II X4 925. Right now I only have 2GB of RAM, but I plan on eventually getting 4, 6, or 8GB depending on money. What do you guys think will be normal settings for some games (Far Cry 3, GTA IV, Crysis 3, and Battlefield 4 are the ones I want to know). I don't think Linus made a video with a setup similar, so that's why I'm asking.

 

Also, how quiet is the TwinFrozr, and the reference style EVGA?

I have the twin frozr and can say that it is very quiet. I only can really hear it if I run afterburner and get it to 100% load. As for settings, I dont really play those games so i can't  help you there sorry.

I know the RAM will hold me back, but money is tight, so I don't want to buy a bunch of games ahead of time only to find out they all run like shit.

I don't want to push my poor little ASRock too far. The 925 is even pushing it for me.

maybe you should get a 650ti refurbed and some more RAM. I honestly think that will hold you back the most

GTX 660 = 29/41 FPS, GTX 650 Ti = 20/28 FPS.

The GTX 480 is basically the 660, here is how a heavily OC'd 480 performs with a 5ghz 2500k in some games.

 

BF3 i used to run at 75hz with high settings, and i would almost always stay at my frame cap.

The video is 25FPS so it does look choppy.

 

Crysis with some mods and 8xMSAA maxed.

 

Lost Planet (terribly coded game)

 

Defiance (more CPU bound)

Right now I'm fine, since the most taxing game I own is either GTA: San Andreas or NFS: Carbon. My 6570 likes to play Portal maxed at 1080p and 4XMSAA. Not bad.

If I was in your position, I would aim for the 660 but really try and get the 4GB of RAM.  It will make such a difference to your whole system.

 

As far as frame rates or settings are concerned, Far Cry 3 is not too bad to run so high on that, GTA IV is a pig., Crysis 3 medium, and Battlefield 4 medium to high.  With battlefield, especially online it is a very good idea to get that frame rate up as high as you can. I sacrifice detail for framerates. Single player I can play on ultra but multi I play on Medium to high.

Aaand I can confirm that I played GTA EFLC in a GTX 650... the asus one that doesn't have 6 pin con. at high in 1920*1080... Others... can't confirm.

I know. I planned on getting at least 6GB later off eBay. So broke, and I don't wanna dump more money into it than I have to. I want Dominator or a new laptop more.

My friend plays BF3 & BF4 on his dual core laptop with AMD graphics. Plays on low but still looks great especially when he hooks it up to my 42" tv.
