GTX 970/980 PSU Requirements

Go to solution Solved by Crunchy Dragon,

You should be fine to go with any of those cards.

Hi guys. Happy New Year.

I'm going to do a small upgrade. Wll be upgrading from my broken GTX 960 (HDMI port status is 50/50, sometimes working, sometimes not)

Planning to get a GTX 970 or a 980 second  hand, prices are around $130 - $210 (converted here in my country) That's almost the same as new GTX 1050Ti or 1060s. Will not be getting them since I'll use it mostly for video editing, the GTX 970 has more CUDA cores than the 1060 6GB.

So yeah, the power requirements. I have a Seasonic M12ii 520W EVO

Here are the rest of the specs

i7 3770 @ 4.3GHz, no additional voltage. Overclocked it 4 bins (allowed)

AsRock Z77 Pro 3

GTX 960 as of now, planning to have a GTX 970/980

12GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM Dual Channel

Samsung 840 EVO 240GB

WD Green 120GB SSD

2 500GB Seagate Barracudas (RAID 0)

1 2TB Seagate Desktop HDD

That's it. Can I take in a 970 or a 980 or a 1060 6GB

I ran a gtx 970 and i5 4690k with a 500w 80+ EVGA tier 6 PSU just fine(your psu seems a lot better than what i had). Only recieved a Cooler master masterwatt 650w recently to run my rtx 2070 (which reccomends 550w psu)

Damn....

I'm running a 4790 (locked i7) + Heaps of Lighting in the case, 4 HDD's, and a GTX970 (at 1500Mhz Core OC)

With a 450w PSU of Unknown Quality (Silver PSU made overseas)

Was used everyday for years like that,..I did replace it, due to its quality,.. but it ran for years just fine at full load.

450w.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

It's fine but i would recommend u that ur using like a 600 W ish psu cuz a 980 is a power hungry card back in 2015

Reminder to always be happy even in tough situations 🙂
