Modding a Trash HP SFF PC :D

Hey guys! I just want to show you my progress on an "experiment" with a trashed HP Compaq PC that I pulled out of the dump (legally ).

 

The PC came with no HDD (otherwise I wouldn't have been able to get it), only 2GB of DDR3 memory and a Core i3 2100. Yep not much really, but for free and I always wanted to do a pointles modd on a PC anyway .

 

 

Alright, I first started sleeving all the cables of this little HP machine. It actually has way less cables than standard PCs but it comes with lots of IO-Cables that are rather thick and diffcult to work with. Nothing that could stopp me though. 

 

 

After I sleeved every single possible wire in this PC I decided to take everything apart and spraypaint the front of the metall chassis silver (it was black). My aim is to get a silver shine through the black plastic shroud.

 

That's basically where I'm at rightnow. I will spraypaint all the CPU-cooling parts silver too. I'm also gonna cut a window into the sidepanel and get some lighting in there. 

 

 

I like working with acrylic but I don't know what I should modd by using it inside the PC...

Today I finished the metal work on the case. I cut the window out. I also cut a part of the rear IO out and made a custom GPU mounting bracket for this case. I removed all the stickers on the parts and sanded down all the parts for a new coat of spray paint.

 

It's comming together...

what kind of look are you going for. are you building a sleeper?

I'm going for a "clean" look. At least I'm trying to accomplish that . I try to keep the modd as cheap as possible.

Tomorrow I'll give the case a new black coat of spray paint and I'm also planning on getting the plexi sidepanel window cut at my local hardware store. 

 

I also have an i5 2400 for 25 bucks comming in in the few days and I'm looking for cheap used GTX 1050 (ti) or GTX 750 ti cards.

For lighting I just ordered a cheap RGB kit of AliExpress for 6 bucks .

That's my progress so far. I will take some time off of this build though... I always kind of get pissed off after I've spent a while working on something like that .

 

I was freaking worried the memory couldn't fit into the slots anymore. But Corsair LP memory goes in just fine.
