hi all i will be looking to build a new system in the next two weeks or so, I am struggling to choose between air cooling and watercooling i will list the build parts below in 2 configs and would just like some feedback on what setup to go for thanks.

Config one

case Fractal define r6 tempered glass

Gigabyte aorus pro/ultra motherboard

cpu i7 9700k i will be hoping for 5ghz (i will be getting a overclocked bundle from scan.co.uk)

32gb 3000mhz Corsair rgb

Msi gtx1070 (from my current pc)

Corsair h115i platinum 280mm AIO

Samsung 1tb m.2 ssd

Samsung sata 3 500gb ssd

3x 3.5 inch hdd

Corsair HX1000i power supply (from my old system)

Add more case fans for airflow or not needed ?

i have read that the h115i platinum is tight / will not fit with the corsair rgb if top mounted in the r6.

If i front mount the h115i i am not sure how many 3.5inch drives i can fit in the r6 with the cover plate moved over anyone shed some light on how many 3.5hdd and 2.5inch ssd will fit with it in a open config.

Config Two case

Fractal define r6 tempered glass

 Gigabyte aorus pro/ultra motherboard

cpu i7 9700k i will be hoping for 5ghz (i will be getting a overclocked bundle from Scan.co.uk) 32gb 3000mhz Corsair LPX

Msi gtx1070 (from my current pc)

Noctua Nh d15 air cooler

Samsung 1tb m.2 ssd

Samsung 500gb ssd sata 3

3x 3.5inch ssd

Corsair Hx1000i power supply (from my old system)

if i do go the air cooling route will the D15 be enough for 5ghz in the r6 case and would the standard case fans be enough airflow for the r6 i was maybe thinking getting 2x noctua 120/140mm to put at the top of the r6 with the top mesh panel in a exhaust config im not sure if that would be necessary or just keep the standard r6 setup.

My current system  Antec 1200 v2 case

Gigabyte ud4 b3 motherboard cpu i5 2500k @ 4.5ghz overclock (3xs overclock from Scan.co.uk)

Corsair LPX 8gb ram

500gb evo 850 ssd

Corsair Hx1000i power supply

I am just wondering what route to go down i was hoping to get the r6 define and add some rgb etc but the more i think about it i'm wanting something more reliable not fancy lights and ram etc.

I tend to only upgrade major components every 5-6 years and my current Noctua D14 has been working perfectly for the last 6 years i tend to be more on the side of air cooling as there is more parts to fail on a watercooling setup and i just don't think i would like to run a AIO for that long incase of pump failure or a water leak.

what would you guys pick or change for this system does anyone run a Noctua D15 in the r6 and how is the r6 for air cooling instead of water.

thanks.

The NH-D15 actually outperforms the Corsair h115i so there's that... furthermore air coolers are always better purchase, less breaking points, less likely to leak and kill every thing on your computer, while being cheaper and better performing... the NH-D15 goes neck on neck with 360mm AiO's.

I do understand however that the NH-D15 is ugly as hell so why not reconsider the Dark Rock Pro 4 instead?

Either ways you should say what you plan on doing on the PC, you didn't specify and we usually consider gaming as that's the majority of people coming here for, which for gaming it is quite unbalanced... grabbing an i7 9700K with 32gb of ram "just" for a GTX 1070?

Also great choice on the motherboard, Gigabyte Aorus Z390 is as great as it gets.

G.Skill has a better costumers support and warranty dealing than Corsair so why not consider some Trident Z RGB if you wanna RGB goodness?

yes sorry this will be mainly a gaming machine mostly all i use the pc for is Flight simulators such as P3D and Xplane 11, I know it is a bit unbalanced gpu wise but my Flight sims are not as GPU intensive as other games i also play in 4k on my Asus PG348Q and the 1070 seems to be ok for now.

My intention was to go with the Msi 2080ti however i just don't think the price in my case for the 2080ti is justified, I would rather wait to see what kind of graphics cards come out next year as i think the whole Rtx Nvidia release has been a disappointment in my opinion, I might pick up a used 1080Ti i could have got a new one 3-4weeks ago for £650 i wish i had got it now as it is currently upto nearly £900.

I also don't really mind the colour of the Noctua it's not to everyone's liking but i actually don't mind the colour, I had actually looked at the Be Quiet dark rock pro 4 but i would rather just get another Noctua cooler as i know i wont have any issues and the ram is kind of the same as the cooler i tend to stick with brands i have used in the past and i have not had any problems with ram from Corsair.

I also always tend to go with Gigabyte motherboards as the amount of problems over the years i have had with DOA Asus boards, lockups etc I have never had a issue with Gigabytes boards and i think they are decent value and spec compared to Asus etc.
