Hello there! Not sure if this the right subforum for this but it's focused on gaming so I guess I'll post it here. Anyways, a couple of days ago I got a new SSD and new CPU Cooler and I gave them to a technician with a lot of experience to build them in. I also asked him to reinstall Windows for me into the SSD, so he did. The PC booted much faster and it was much cooler so I was quite satisfied with the job he has done. Then I go download Steam and CS:GO, I boot up the game and I notice that my FPS isn't not very stable and that it drops quite a lot. So much so that in a match I would reach 30fps while in combat and my PC would freeze then restart after 30 seconds in a match. I downloaded my latest drivers and all of my hardware seems to be working just fine. I've had no problems running CS:GO around 150-250 FPS at Very High settings at all times until now. If anyone could help me resolve this issue that would be great. System specs and config which I think are useful to know:

GTX 1060 6GB

AMD FX 6300

Windows 10 Pro Edition

1440x900 resolution on a 60Hz screen

Thank you for reading, and if you have a solution please answer when you can :)

P.S. No my PC doesn't overheat, also the FPS drops happen in many games, even ROBLOX...

Your CPU isn't that good, but it shouldn't be reason to this kind of sudden things. Are games installed on SSD or HDD?

All of them are on the HDD. I tried to play a deatchmatch today and my max FPS was 100 and lowest 30. I would often throttle down to 40 and it was hard to play that way.

If you have space, try moving the most played games to SSD. Its still odd that you would get bottlenecking issue now instead of when you upgraded GPU.

I tried playing ROBLOX which should be in the C Disk (SSD). I mostly had 60 fps but it would sometimes drop to around 30 (every 10 seconds). Considering this is ROBLOX I have no idea why it is happening. Ill check on CS:GO when it transfers.

Something is eating performance if drops are that kind of constant and not related to what is happening on screen.

I checked with task manager. ROBLOX seemed to be the only thing using CPU usage, although it was only at around 30-40% which I think is a bit low for it. Is it?

EDIT: Now that I checked it seems that my Windows Antimalware uses 13%, seems to be a lot for antimalware idk

Can't say, I haven't played that game so I don't know should it demand more from GPU or CPU. CSGO is CPU heavy.

Take it back to the techie,...

Explain,...

Benefits - The System after you got it back was smooth and fast when booting, this worked out all great as an upgrade... HOWEVER...

Problems - GPU performance IS legit crippled somehow by software/Windows, how those were setup or whatever,.. but it came back ever so much SLOWER in Games.
Windows got the Upgrade, Games got Downgraded.

He won't like hearing that, priding his own knowledge,.. and should be able to fix it for you, and shouldn't cost you as the first upgrade he did didn't work as advertised.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

We talked to each other over Viber, he gave me some ideas from his head. He didn't charge me before so it is ok. He is aware of the issue, but unfortunately, he won't be able to get it done before the New Year so that's why I have been searching for solutions here.

Can always do what most of us do (if not already)

Download DDU (DisplayDriveruninstaller) and Run that, then Reinstall Nvidia drivers for your 1060.

Clean Driver install with DDU cures MOST performance issues when something gets changed and peoples performance goes to shit...

/Likely you've done this already but never know without asking\

I have downloaded the newest drivers, however I did not uninstall any. He said he installed the latest ones so I didnt bother, but I will do that and check if anything improves.

Yes I do, how is that a problem?

CPU VRM overheating -> throtteling CPU to lower cloc.

Now you get your other spare fan and let it blow onto the Board (between CPU and I/O Area), either from the back (if possible and Case has a cout out for that) or the front.

After you've done that (wich might need some craftsmanship), your fps drops should be gone.

So you recommend me to take the stock cooler to cool the VRM if I am getting that right. (Asking so I dont screw up)

no, not the cooler.

I didn't misspeak here, I meant a fan. That thing with blades that's moving.

You should have one or two in your case, need a Philips Screw Driver and use that for testing.

And just let it blow to the CPU VRM.

The AMD Box cooler is also a possibility as well, though that cooler tends to be a bit louder but also has some airflow towards the VRM.

Alright I'll attempt to do that and let you know what happens
