UPGRADE TO i5-9600k & 1080ti from i5-7600k & 1060-6gb (PICS!)

hazeyez

I had a pretty decent mid-range build, with the i5-7600k and a Asus GTX 1060 6gb Dual, and 16gb RAM.

This was upgraded a few months ago with a new case, NZXT h700i, added 8gb more RAM, Samsung 860 Evo 500gb, a better PSU (Seasonic 520w s12ii) and got a Corsair h100i RGB Pro AIO but never put it on til now.

So recently I've been looking to upgrade. Originally wanted a i9-9900k and RTX 2080ti with a custom loop but that would cost easily $3500-$4000 the way I'd like it.

I was then thinking to just do a RTX 2080 and an i7-9700k. But then I was sort of talked out of it, knowing that new architectures are being released within 4-12 months for both AMD & Intel. Besides, if I'm going to go all out I'd prefer the TI gpu, so I figured I could save that top-of-the-line build for late 2019 or so, at which point hopefully prices on the TI's will come down.

SO I was left to search through classified for used parts. What an experience. Let me tell you, some (most) of these people think they have GOLD!! LOL

I came across a nice older guy that had a Gigabyte Aorus Xtreme 1080ti listed for $500. He had it for VR (doesn't even game) but sold the VR and didn't need it. Good price right?

I talked him down to $450 cash with a guaranteed fast purchase.

I didn't want to just sell my GTX 1060-6gb by itself, so I figured I would upgrade my CPU/mobo also, and put all the old parts in my old case and sell them!

So that's what I'm doing, just need to get some RAM (getting 16gb DDR4 for $60 tomorrow).

I got a i5-9600k yesterday at Microcenter, they have a crazy sale $70 off for $229. So I picked that up, and the $179 Gigabyte Aorus Elite z390 for $30 off for the combo deal.

Total upgrade - $828.00.

WOW THE RESULTS ARE AMAZING!

Finally, moving the i5-7600k & 1060-6gb to the old case, I figure I can easily get about $650-$750 for it. So I got a great upgrade for about $100!!!!!!

What do you think?

i imagine the 1080ti is a sweet upgrade (almost double). Did you test it out in your old rig? get some real world comparable.

I am sure a lot of the forum members would like you to share.

I keep thinking of upgrading my 5960x to an i9.

@LaserLion Incorrect - spent 3.5 hours managing cables until 4am two nights ago.

Best I could do with a non-modular psu. But ! will get you photos with it off!

@Loadent I have not tested it out on my old rig but I will for you!
