Should i update my GPU Driver?

I wanted to know if should update my Nvidia driver for my GTX 1050 

But when i had my gt 1030 updating the drivers complete ruined the FPS went from getting 45-50 fps in gta to getting 30-45 fps 

Right now i have my gtx 1050 on the stock windows driver and it seems to be working fine but i was wondering if my performance would get worse or better as this is a better video card then my gt 1030 was

or should i just stay on this driver version cause i have seen many people complain about how the newer drivers are trash and my encounter with that would be  true for my gt 1030

and just worried about updating

Why not make a backup first so if something goes wrong you can just restore backups?
