Building around an R5-2600 and a GTX-1080Ti/Vega 64. Budget ~$700.

Toushima

Hey all,

I'm planning on donating my existing setup to my GF and building a new system with the R5-2600 and a 1080Ti (~$650)/Vega 64(~$450) [NOT INCLUDED IN 700 BUDGET]. The only other parts I will transfer over are:

  • 3TB HDD (Storage)
  • 540GB SSD (Games)
  • 120GB SSD (Windows/Apps)
  • 2560x1080 21:9 Monitor (Freesync)

As might be evident from the list above, I do generally play a decent amount of games. Think along the lines of: Civ VI, Battlefield V, Soul Calibur VI, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Destiny 2 etc.

I have tried to do some research myself on parts, but jesus the landscape has changed quite a bit since my last build (i5-4590k era). What happened to buying the fanciest looking stuff and it all working together without issues. Anywho, I digress. With a budget of ~$700 (post GPU and CPU costs), I hope I can get some decent parts which are compatible with one another. I do not have any brand loyalty, or preference (as long as they're reasonably well-known. I wouldn't be too happy about some chinese brand without warranty for example).

Parts that I'm still looking for (bracketed parts are the ones I think are good fits?):

  • Motherboard (ASUS Prime x470 Pro? MSI x470 Gaming Pro Carbon?)  - Looking for a good amount of USB ports on the back
  • RAM (Corsair 16GB 3200Mhz? G.Skill Trident Z 3200Mhz?)  - Preferably RGB with white color scheme
  • CPU Cooler (Dark Rock 4? Scythe 5? Arctic Freezer 33 eSports?)  - Looking for decent air cooling to OC the 2600 with
  • PSU (Corsair RM850x?)  - Looking for full modularity and the ability to deal with an OC'd 2600
  • PC Case (Cooler Master H500? Thermaltake Core P3?) - Looking for good airflow and maybe a white design, will stand on desk which is located in living room.

I'm open to all suggestions when it comes to parts. I'm trying to achieve a white/purple theme, but black/purple is of course also possible in case the white variant is impossible.

So if your budget from what I can understand is 700$, I don't think you are going to be getting a 1080ti / vega 64

Main And Only Build : CPU : Ryzen 5 1600x (OC to 4.2GHz), Cooler : Thermaltake Floe Riing RGB 240 TT Premium Edition, Motherboard : Asus ROG Strix B450-F Gaming, RAM : Trident Z RGB 16GB (2*8) 3000Mhz DDR4, GPU : Gigabyte Gaming GTX 1070 TI, PSU : EVGA G3 650W 80+ Gold Certified, Storage : 250GB Samsung 860 Evo + 256GB SU800 + 2TB Seagate HDD.

- White case w/ good airflow: Fractal design meshify C white. It has a black interior so it's your choice to paint it or not, the black helps balance out if you have black or darker components.

- Ram, the team t force delta 2 white rgb ram is compatible with aura sync (the asus rgb software). Always make sure to get 3000mhz or more for ryzen (zen performs better w/ faster ram)

- the dark rock pro 4 is probably a better choice imo for oc'ing, aesthetics, performance, and silence

-an rm750x is the most you'll need.

- motherboard is a good choice but the strix-f x470 is a nicer looking board imo (has some more features too)

-you're not getting a vega 64 or 1080Ti with your budget. The 1080Ti is barely even selling anymore.

The budget of 700 is for the components aside from CPU and GPU. So purely for the parts listed.

based on this you budget is around 1600 so why don you go with something like this?

Storage you have already

i7 will shred an r5 in gaming preformance

2080 and 1080ti are comparable in performance but 1080ti's are getting hard to find(unless your buying used)

all white theme with rgb componenets

can put a led strip insde if you want more lights
