I have a serious problem with audio on my new x470 taichi motherboard

Right click the speaker icon in the bottom right of windows.  Select the 'Playback' tab.  Single click on your speakers and click 'Configure' down in the bottom left of the window.  Does it have 'Stereo' Highlighted or one of the surround options?

Hi, I recently upgraded my pc and I have a very weird and annoying problem with the sound.

This clip shows ac origins but happens in other games too, and outside games as shown at the end of the clip. Some sounds in games don't play: footsteps, environmental sounds, some effects, etc. randomly. Has a weird reverb tunnel/hallway echo even though no such effect is enabled in realtek control panel.

In or outside of games, it just doesn't work as it's supposed to: this 1 and a half minute video I made explains the problem perfectly (yes i know the thumbnail is a bit nonrelated but i cant seem to be able to change it lol):

Specs:

windows 10 64bit
My new PC: Asrock x470 taichi / 16Gb Gskill 3200 Cl14 @ 3200cl14 / msi RTX 2080 gaming x trio / ssd/hdd etc 650w 80+ gold psu

My old PC: i7 6700K / msi z270 gaming m7 / 16gb corsair 3000mhz cl15 / msi rx 480 gaming x 8gb

old pc never had such problems with sound whatsoever.

I have reinstalled windows after assembling the new rig, latest drivers from amd site for the x470 chipset, latest drivers from nvidia as of today 19/12/2018 latest audio driver from asrock ( Realtek high definition audio driver ver:8408_FF00 ) at https://www.asrock.com/MB/AMD/X470 Taichi/index.asp#Download, latest windows updates (win version 1809 17763.194)

please help :(

have u tried running the troubbleshooter see if that fixes it ,i dont have your board but had simular issues with my first x470 ( sonic studio 3 + sonic radar )and that cured it , check control panel too make sure the right audio device is set to default ,  when u installed the chipset drivers with the nvidia card in did u get any issues i did with mine i ended up letting the package extract and then just pointing device manager to the package for instalation rather than running the amd software ;)

Does not fix it, but regardless, it's not an issue of this particular game. hence it worked fine on my previous pc. it's a system wide thing.

regarding the chipset drivers, i did not try the manual approach, and i have no idea now which devices in device manager were updated by the installer, the thing is, i can't test that out without reinstalling windows. this is annoying. :(

Any other hints ?

Almost sounds like you've got surround enabled while outputting to a stereo device, had a similar issue with a PS4 and an HDMI audio extractor.

yes, it sound exactly like it but it's not. thing is, i noticed something by accident: if i connect my speakers or headphones to the front case jack it works fine. if i put them in the rear green jack i get that problem. i'm starting to suspect the actual jack may have a problem. any hints on how to proceed debugging/figuring this out ?

Honestly if you're sure that you don't have surround enabled on the back port somehow I think you've already diagnosed and found the problem if the front jack works fine.

Right click the speaker icon in the bottom right of windows.  Select the 'Playback' tab.  Single click on your speakers and click 'Configure' down in the bottom left of the window.  Does it have 'Stereo' Highlighted or one of the surround options?

With all the Trolls, Try Hards, Noobs and Weirdos around here you'd think i'd find SOMEWHERE to fit in!
