your ram is running correctly each stick runs at half the speed and together in dual channel they at 1333mhz. 666x2 = 1332. which is 1333mhz.

That's not the reason why his RAM is running at half the speed.

DDR3 stands for Double Data Rate version 3. The RAM's actual speed IS 667MHz. The EFFECTIVE speed is 1333MHz. DDR3 is "dual pumped."

Similarily, GDDR5 on graphics works the same way...but it's effective speed is four times the actual speed. "quad pumped." For an example, the GTX 760 has an effective memory speed of ~6000MHz = 1500MHz actual.

What is your power supply? For your cooler, I would get the NH-D14 as it is the best air cooler as it doesn't require as much maintenance as water coolers. The R9 270 is around a 10fps increase so it is your choice whether you want a new cpu or a new gpu. Personally would get a new cpu so you can overclock it and will minimize the bottleneck of the cpu when you get a new gpu.

First of all, you do not need water cooling unless you are going to overclock the $%&!! out of your CPU.'

Second of all, I do not know what to tell you as you have not stated what you use the computer for, so I will just have to assume gaming.

Ok, now the fun starts.

Your CPU is good for one thing, overclocking.

You have 500 USD to spend, I would recommend getting an Intel CPU and Motherboard.

Now, here are things you can do right now.

Buy an SSD and put your OS on it, it will dramatically increase your boot speed and performance, you can also use it for steam, and keep some games on your HDD.

Buy a Keyboard and Mouse, if it matters to you.

Save it, which is not at all what you asked, but if you save it, you can wait for the Skylake Processors to come out.

But to tell you the truth, I cannot give you a good answer, unless you tell me what you are trying to do, and what you do not want to change.

You have guessed correctly, Gaming. I play games from Minecraft - BF4. When you say I have $500 to spend that seems like loads. I was planning on OC'ing my CPU I've seen people get this chip in excess of 4Ghz.

I also absolutely hate MSI I have had a terrible experience with my MSI mobo and I am getting rid of it this week, it keeps my ram at 800Mhz and throttles my cpu, but enough of my ranting you should get a water cooler or possibly a new motherboard or get an 8350 to replace the 6100, if you do get the 8350 get a water cooler but you would probably need a new mobo if you get the 8350 so if you have enough do that

Okay, SSD, MoBo, CPU. I'm going to skip the cooler due to the fact I already have a "Akasa x4" cooler. I'd really like to go Nvidia for GFX. Maybe a GTX760 then later on SLi 2 of them. Anyone know a cheap SLi AM3+ Motherboard.

or just get a better CPU for that socket and GPU, total rebuild would be a waste because after getting the new things to support the new setup he would be getting less performance then if he just upgraded for that line

That makes no sense to me. Why would he lose permormance when switching to Intel? Intel has better single core performance, and is always superior. AMD is cheaper, and you can afford many of them. 2 AMD CPU will beat 1 Intel. But with the money he has to spend, he will get a @#$%TON! more performance out of an i7.

What do you define as a decent i7, Sandy Bridge is decent...

one I consider a k series a decent i7 which cost around $300 out of his $500 budget not to mention new mobo, and the point of that video was to show intel cores aren't super cores, if he got a 6300 even if he got a pretty good mobo it would cost him about $200 then boom $300 for a new graphics card, but remember the 6300 can run off his current mobo so if he stays that route he has $400 dollars for a new GPU picks up a R9 280x has a really good gaming rig right there.

I probably could. I was thinking of investing in an FX9000 series CPU. Probably an ASUS or Gigabyte mobo.

Waste of money. It would take up much of your budget and wouldn't contribute much for gaming.

Are you still waiting for birthday money? If so, I'd wait for then before planning.

The MSI 970A-G46 is a good choice (16x and 8x).

That mobo has common issues with fx 8 cores.

An i7 doesn't perform much better than a cheaper fx 8 core from AMD for gaming. It's effectively s waste of money for gaming on a budget.

but by switching to a decent i7 he will use up most of his budget, which he can use to get a new GPU, and now he will not get A MASSIVE performance boost by switching to intel

What he said^
