Hey guys,

I was looking at CPUs to buy and ran into a problem, through my tables (see below) the Core i5-9600k came out on top, however, it was closely followed by the Core i5-8500 and Core i5-8600 but also if you go solely based off of PassMark Score/Dollar the AMD Ryzen suite especially the 2600x, 2600 and 1600 win by a landslide. So I want your guys' opinions, what CPU would be better if I do some gaming, but also photo/video editing. I live in Vietnam so the prices are in Vietnamese Dong and I would only be able to purchase from stores here (since I would rather buying here but if necessary I could buy online).

Thanks,

Lewys

Get R5 2600. It's better value for money, and it's better for workload because it's 6c/12t compared to i5 6c/6t.

Main system: Ryzen 7 7800X3D / Asus TUF Gaming B650-Plus / G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO 32GB 6000Mhz / Zotac RTX 5090 SOLID OC/ x2 WD_BLACK NS770 2TBs/ Corsair HX1000i/ NZXT H5 Flow

I'd pick the locked i7 8700 over the i5 9600K any day personally speaking.

More cache and hyper-threading for actually cheaper when you consider you don't have to break a bank with motherboard and cooling out weights the extra 500mhz frequency boost you'd get overclocking the i5 to me.

The i7 8700K is still Intel's most appealing CPU.

how quickly do you need to build? rumor has it AMD is gonna announce the 7nm Ryzen 3000 series at CES in just over 3 weeks. if the rumors are true it's gonna wreck everything with more cores and higher speeds. unless you just NEED a PC now I would wait to see what the launch window is on those chips.

I was just looking don't have the full money yet and probably won't start the build for a few months, but thanks for letting me know. I think I'll plan an AMD build and an Intel build to see for whichever way it decides to go. Thanks

Then this thread really is of no help, since the DYI PC segment updates or at least refreshes itself every half a year, start planning a build several months in advance is senseless since by the time you'll finally purchase something there will be new stuff at the market.

True, I'm mainly waiting until after Christmas to see how much money I have left so there's a chance I'd build it in January or a chance I'd build it later on and I would update the list. Thanks for the help
