Server going slow?

So there's over 1000 people online right now on linustechtips. The server seems to be going very slow when saving a topic or comment. Is this just because of so many people being on the server? Or because of the recent backup system they added for ddos prevention?

Gaming rig- Cpu- Amd 9590, 16gbs of G Skill Ram, Gpu- GTX 760 windforce 3 edition 2gb. A Thermaltake water 2.0 water cooler for my cpu. Keyboard- Thermaltake Posieden , Case- 750D, Mobo Asus 990fx R2.0. 24 inch Dell LED monitor

It's because CloudFlare/LTT admins are still trying to combat the DDoS effects. It's kinda like when you flood the carb on your car. You gotta take it slow, then ease into it *that's what she said*.

We're experiencing heavy DDOS attacks.

Any idea who's doing it?

Nope. It's hard to track a DDoSer since they have the host computer make a bunch of zombies that flood the server (i.e. 11Gbps through a 10Gbps NIC), effectively cutting off legit connections. Typically.

 

 

One common method of attack involves saturating the target machine with external communications requests, so much so that it cannot respond to legitimate traffic, or responds so slowly as to be rendered essentially unavailable. Such attacks usually lead to a server overload. In general terms, DoS attacks are implemented by either forcing the targeted computer(s) to reset, or consuming its resources so that it can no longer provide its intended service or obstructing the communication media between the intended users and the victim so that they can no longer communicate adequately.

It alters the request to include the IP-address of the targeted system as the source. The DNS server sends the big record to the victim. This way, an attacker can amplify his available bandwidth many times.

The kind of DDoS makes no difference. Unless they DDoS LTT's DNS servers (which is NOT DRDos), the service will always be slow, but not non-existent ;)

Seems cloudflares handling it fine, seen no issues of lag or anything similar if it's still under way.
