Custom Optiplex 7010

RogueLizard

i5 3470

8GB Kinston Hyper X Fury 1600 CL9

EVGA GT 1030 SC

PNY CS900 120GB

SeaGate Barracuda 1TB 7200

Custom PSU (soldered on thicker sleeved cables and painted shroud, replaced 60mm fan)

Custom paint job, even painted PCIe slot covers and every single screw

CPU reaches 69c max without thermal paste, I just haven't put it on yet. i5 3470 masterrace

GPU max temp was 59c.

Running an older build of Windows 10 that doesn't have so many fucking problems.

It runs Skyrim maxed out just fine. That's all it's gonna be used for, maybe some Dolphin emulation here and there

Oh yeah, here's the stock piece of shit for reference as to how much work I've put into this thing

Man after seeing what a "built" SFF 7010 looks like, I sure am glad I got the slightly bigger DFF. The 1050Ti I'm hopefully getting here right shortly would NOT be able to breathe with how damn close it'd be to the PSU.

Now all your build needs are red LEDs everywhere

I plan on doing a custom windowed side panel sometime in the future.

You'd still be fine. The front 80mm fan blows a ton of air at the GPU and blows a lot more while the CPU is under load.

I plan on installing MSI's GTX 1050 Ti LP dual fan, should be just fine. I'm also going to add more RAM. Once I sell my primary rig, this tiny ass little thing is gonna be my daily.

I daily'd an Inspiron 545 with a GTX 460 SE for close to a year so I can't imagine this would be any worse.

You'd be surprised how much having the card close to the PSU might oof it. Just for kicks I ran my 7570 in the bottom slot and temps went up 5C, which for a card that never exceeds 65C with such a dinky cooler... Well that's kinda notable.

the 1050ti you have in the pics does not look like it's gonna fit in that case with the half height pci.

Don't do drugs. Do hugs!

Looks like he is using a pci-e riser adapter and just laying it on the case.

Ah, I see that now. I guess that "works" but it just seems to me a kind of odd choice after spending so much time painting and modding an optiplex case to make it look cool (which it does) to just ruin the whole aesthetic by leaving the side panel off to connect to a card over a pci riser... Just... why? I do hope he fixes this somehow as the whole build does look really cool, although I admit I can't really think of any good solutions. It's what happens I guess when you commit to a case with half height pci...

that was for shits and giggles. If you hadn't already noticed there's a LP GT 1030 in there

Ah, gotcha. I thought you were ditching the 1030 for the external 1050ti. Nice build all around.

no I'm gonna do that for a 1070 with an external PSU, although I can squeeze by with 240W if I wanted to.

I'm selling my primary workstation for $1300 so I'll probably use this Optiplex until I figure out what I want to do

  • 9 months later...

Some months ago I made something similar. My father had his birthday and needed a new PC. Hes favorite colors are red and black, so I decided to mod the case of the used PC I bought him (4th gen i5 with 8GB RAM and SSD, nothing special). Matte blacked the housing and some red here and there. Here's my final present for him:

Planning to do a build on an MT 7010, still have to get some cash together.

Ideally these would be the specs
