So I'm not sure what info the community may need? Our set up is two gaming PC's in the same room, both wired connections. We're using the provided modem and router from Spectrum. Idk about my wife's PC but all my drivers are up to date via windows and directly from motherboard website for internet drivers.

The issue that only I have and have had for at least a month I'd say. Issue 1 "no valid ip" randomly and frequently. Issue 2 "can't find DNS" randomly and frequently. By freqduently I mean almost daily. I usually have to Google CMD lines to reset ipconfig or netsh int in reset coommands and restart my PC to get it working again.

It's a minor issue but super annoying, thanks in advance and let me know any details I need to add that will help!

It may be in your best interest to grab a router and put it behind the ISP's as their routers sometimes have problems with multiple clients, as for the DNS issue, you can log into the router and set the DNS servers to be public DNS ip addresses instead of the ISP ones. Just google Google DNS server addresses and put em in

Issue one looks like an IP config/DHCP problem, the second issue seems to be either router or ISP related. What is your exact network setup? Modem->Router->PCs or do you have other devices in there too?

Um I'm not sure how to answer that, the Modem and Router are both branded Spectrum but I'm not sure who the manufacturer and or model is or where to find it? So the set up is our office has the modem, router and two gaming PC's that are wired to the router. The TV and one xbox is on wifi and the other xbox is wired as well. Aside from changing the default password for our network I haven't adjust any settings in windows 10 or the router. I'm not great with networking stuff so sorry for my ignorance.

That's no problem,I just wanted to know if your router and modem are two seperate devices and if there is another device that runs a DHCP server. But now that had a look at the routers spectrum offers, they don't seem to be bad, unlike the hardware most ISPs provide. I have two guesses: you either got unlucky and received a defective router or there's just a problem with the configuration. Have you tried to reset the router?

  • 1 month later...

Sorry for the insanely late response. Holiday took over our lives with travel. Anyways I have not tried resetting the router but I will some time tomorrow because this issue is getting old. Lol. Thanks again for all the input and suggestions.
