Asus ROG STRIX X370-I + 2600x - Will it POST without BIOS update?

I've got a friend who won the board back in June but didn't have the money for a CPU until now.

We're planning to use a 2600x, but the site where I'm buying says the BIOS needs to be updated.

I'm not familiar with AMD, but on Intel you can usually post and then update the BIOS then.

Will I need a 1st gen CPU to update the BIOS?

You will need 1st gen Ryzen to flash the bios. It won't work with Gen 1 without it.

Main system: i7 8700k 5Ghz / Asus Prime Z370-A / Corsair Vengeance 2x8GB 3000Mhz / Asus TUF RTX3080 / EVGA 750W GQ / Fractal Design Meshify C

Well, it might cause Ryzen chips are backwards compatible, but it just depends on if the bios was updated when he purchased it

Bugger, so it's a question of luck. Awesome.
