Hi. This is my first time build. Trying to build gaming rig but also needs to do simple things like surfing on the web and doin hw (ima noob i dont know if different things are needed) link for what im trying to build is down below. Please feel free to suggest changes (like motherboard or things like that) as you guys are probably better at placing thermal paste than me...since I literally have no experience. Also, is there someway/somehow I can get help in actually setting up the pc?

  • Motherboard is a little overkill.
  • I'd invest more into the peripherals. Cheap ones really lessen the experience.
  • Go with the G2, not the G3 for the PSU.
  • I'd see if you can step up to a 1TB SSD.
  • Don't get the OEM WIndows, get the full version.

Other than that it looks pretty good.

Instead of 8gb 3000mhz ddr4, i suggest you buy 16gb 2400mhz ones. You don’t need fast memory. ( i made this mistake once)

The difference is there, though. You'll see a performance gain with the faster memory.

ty. would you know the difference between ddr4 and ddr3? worth getting ddr4?

You don't have a choice. You can't use DDR3 with that CPU.

1.) For that price, don't bother with a 1080, you can get an RTX 2070 for cheaper with slightly better performance and a guaranteed longer support window.

2.) Get the cooler or an equivalent on Amazon, that is far too overpriced from your current outlet selection ($110 for the same cooler).

3.) Intel is less sensitive to memory speeds, so you could get away with a 2666 MHz kit of DDR4 if you prefer.

4.) Get a cheaper motherboard, that's probably overkill for your purposes

5.) Use the money saved on the GPU, RAM, Cooler, and Mobo and get some decent peripherals. A mechanical keyboard makes a huge difference, as does a quality mouse from a company like Logitech, Corsair, or Razer.

6.) If you don't have a high-resolution or high-refresh-rate monitor to pair with your CPU and GPU, step down a tier and pick one up, otherwise you'll be wasting a ton of horsepower.

What kind of peripherals and monitor do you think i should get?

You had a really weird selection of parts, a lot of which can be replaced with newer gen hardware which is cheaper, and performs the same or better. Namely the H100i v2 and 850 Evo SSD. Both are last gen hardware and have been replaced, and are way more expensive than they should be. I also changed out the 1080 for a 2070 (the 1080 was the price of a used 1080 Ti as it was), as well as changed the PSU to a G2 unit, which are higher quality then the G3 units. Asus motherboards this generation are super meh. Gigabyte boards have significantly better VRMs/power phases, and even the board listed here is overkill for what you'll likely be needing. (Btw, all I did here was change out parts for newer/better stuff, and it brought the price down $300. You can go with an even more cost effective build and save even more money, and still be able to play at 1080p 144Hz, 1440p 60Hz, or even 1440p 144Hz.)

For an RTX 2070, I would go with 1440p 60Hz as a minimum, though it should run 144Hz no problem as well. Other peripherals are completely up to you. There are some pinned threads in the peripherals sub-forum for recommendations, if you want to take a look at that.

My Build, v2.1 --- CPU: i7-8700K @ 5.2GHz/1.288v || MoBo: Asus ROG STRIX Z390-E Gaming || RAM: 4x4GB G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 2666 14-14-14-33 || Cooler: Custom Loop || GPU: EVGA GTX 1080 Ti SC Black, on water || PSU: EVGA G2 850W || Case: Corsair 450D || SSD: 850 Evo 250GB, Intel 660p 2TB || Storage: WD Blue 2TB || G502 & Glorious PCGR Fully Custom 80% Keyboard || MX34VQ, PG278Q, PB278Q

Audio --- Headphones: Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX || Amp: Schiit Audio Magni 3 || DAC: Schiit Audio Modi 3 || Mic: Blue Yeti

[Under Construction]

My Truck --- 2002 F-350 7.3 Powerstroke || 6-speed

My Car --- 2006 Mustang GT || 5-speed || BBK LTs, O/R X, MBRP Cat-back || BBK Lowering Springs, LCAs || 2007 GT500 wheels w/ 245s/285s

The Experiment --- CPU: i5-3570K @ 4.0 GHz || MoBo: Asus P8Z77-V LK || RAM: 16GB Corsair 1600 4x4 || Cooler: CM Hyper 212 Evo || GPUs: Asus GTX 750 Ti, || PSU: Corsair TX750M Gold || Case: Thermaltake Core G21 TG || SSD: 840 Pro 128GB || HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB

R.I.P. Asus X99-A motherboard, April 2016 - October 2018, may you rest in peace. 5820K, if I ever buy you a new board, it'll be a good one.

If you stick with the 1080 or switch to a 2070, this monitor would be a good pairing: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236797&Description=1440p 144hz gsync&cm_re=1440p_144hz_gsync-_-24-236-797-_-Product

If that price seems too steep, you could either step down to 1080p 144hz or 1440p 60hz, or you could switch to an AMD Rx Vega 64 and get an equivalent Freesync monitor which is significantly cheaper while providing the same performance. It'd be up to you, but I can give recommendations at other resolutions or for other brands.

For a keyboard, you'd have to check out the different kinds of mechanical keyboard switches - the most popular are Cherry MX Brown's, but I prefer Red's, and then you can pick a model with those switches included. For a mouse, it depends on if you want a palm grip or claw grip, and if you want wired or wireless; I use palm grip and I'd recommend the Logitech G502 for wired and the G602 for wireless. But it's all about personal preference.

1440p is 2560x1440. 1440 UW is 3440x1440. It should be fine at 1440 UW at 60Hz though.
