It works but both will work on the frequency and timings of the slower stick, also if the motherboard supports dual channel memory, you'll be limited to only the first 4gb in dual channel, if you use more memory it goes into single channel mode.

Like I explained it'll automatically default to the slowest in order to be the same.

I don't quite understand here. Let's say I have 4gb on first slot and 2gb on another. Does that mean I will have 4gb of memory?

The total available memory will be 6gb, but these 6gb will run on Single Channel not Dual Channel if that's something you're after.

ooooooohhh I see. So now I have a total of 6gb of ram, 2 on first channel and 4 on another but it will run on single channel and on the slowest frequency if they're not same.
